Karva Chauth defines culture & values of Indian women

India may have reached the moon, but Indian women still worship the moon from earth on the night of Karva Chauth and pray for their husbands’ longevity, health as well as happiness. Even today’s educated, working women, both at home and abroad, keep hold of Indian values and go by tradition when Karva Chauth celebration comes. They beautify their hands with mehendi, dress themselves in traditional outfits, keep day-long fast, worship the moon, and break the fast with the first bite of food from their husbands’ hands. The importance of this occasion in the lives of Indian women across the world has been highlighted in Bollywood movies of yester years and present days too. Hum Apke Hai Kaun

Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Apke Hain Kaun starring Mudhuri Dixit and Salman Khan filmed the Karva Chauth sequence as not only a traditional ceremony but also a family reunion. It set the trend for the next family-oriented movies produced in the Bollywood factory. Hum Apke Hain Kaun is one of the biggest blockbusters till date.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

The Karva Chauth celebration on the eve of the wedding of leading actors – Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a Punjabi family is an unforgettable scene in the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The traditionally dressed Punjabi women worshiping the reflection of the moon in the water with diyas are featured in the heart-warming song “Ghar aaja pardesi, tera desh bulayere”.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

That Karva Chauth celebration by women is a ceremonious part of Gujarati culture is beautifully featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In the movie, Aishwarya Rai plays a Gujarati belle and keeps fast for her beau Salman Khan. The sequence featuring Gujarati women decked in embroidered sarees and dancing to the tune of the song “Aaja re aaja chanda tu lakh duaye paega” in a wonderful setting.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

The celebration of Karva Chauth by the women of NRI communities is filmed more spectacularly in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. The pairs of Shah Rukh and Kajol, Hrithik and Kareena make the song “Bole chudiya bole kangana” a loveable one forever. The filming of the Karva Chauth song highlights Indian culture and values among the NRIs.

Baghban

Karva Chauth is not just a traditional ceremony but also a celebration of love between wives and husbands. Love is not bound to age. The Karva Chauth sequence in the movie Baghban starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in the lead is a testimony to the statement. It is very romantically shot in the movie.

Ishq Vishq

Karva Chauth is an age-old tradition for married women, while it is a trend for new-age girls to keep fast for their lovers. For today’s unmarried girls both in villages and urban areas, the Karva Chauth celebration is part of their love sagas. The popularity of this Indian culture among girls of the current generation is highlighted in the movie Ishq Vishq starring Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor.
