Karva Chauth defines culture & values of Indian women

India may have reached the moon, but Indian women still worship the moon from earth on the night of Karva Chauth and pray for their husbands’ longevity, health as well as happiness. Even today’s educated, working women, both at home and abroad, keep hold of Indian values and go by tradition when Karva Chauth celebration comes. They beautify their hands with mehendi, dress themselves in traditional outfits, keep day-long fast, worship the moon, and break the fast with the first bite of food from their husbands’ hands. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

The Karva Chauth celebration on the eve of the wedding of leading actors – Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a Punjabi family is an unforgettable scene in the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The traditionally dressed Punjabi women worshiping the reflection of the moon in the water with diyas are featured in the heart-warming song “Ghar aaja pardesi, tera desh bulayere”.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

That Karva Chauth celebration by women is a ceremonious part of Gujarati culture is beautifully featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In the movie, Aishwarya Rai plays a Gujarati belle and keeps fast for her beau Salman Khan.
