Air India is one of the best airlines in India both in terms of flight operations and customer service. It has been revolutionizing air travel for passengers with customer-centric initiatives such as launching its very own AI assistant to answer passenger queries. The airline also recently revamped its Maharaja lounges at Delhi and JFK airport. And now as severe winter fog has engulfed major parts of north India, the airline has announced a fogcare program that is a ray of hope for passengers experiencing flight delays or cancellations. Continue reading to know about Air India airlines FogCare program.

Delhi Airport is one of the busiest airports in India. Major airlines operate their flights to and from this hub. As winter wraps Delhi and dense fog covers the city, flight operations are disrupted. Recognizing the imminent challenges, Air India has once again unveiled its FogCare program, a proactive step to minimize inconveniences for passengers amid the foggy winter season.

About Air India’s FogCare Program

In the face of fog-related disruptions, Air India is poised to provide proactive support to affected passengers. This initiative is an extension of Air India airlines FogCare program introduced last winter. The airline aims to simplify the process of rescheduling or canceling tickets, ensuring a hassle-free experience. Passengers on impacted Air India flights will receive timely updates through flight-specific advisories, ensuring they stay well-informed about potential delays. Tata Group has announced that it is planning to combine Vistara and Air India. The partnership will result in a more extensive airline that will be able to provide both affordable and comfortable passenger services.

Currently, the Tata Group owns 51% of Vistara, with the remainder held by Singapore Airlines. It symbolizes a significant unification in India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector. The transaction, which will make Air India the country’s largest international carrier and second-largest domestic carrier, is planned to close in March 2024.

Various teams are working on various aspects of the merger, including frequent flyer programs. It will take some time to finalize the details. The necessary changes will be made as soon as possible. The combination of both airlines would create an outstanding airline. Air India can benefit from Vistara’s functional abilities, and a decisive priority on passenger service, as Vistara is widely recognized as India’s leading complete service carrier.

Air India is concentrating on boosting its network, updating its customer requests, and enhancing timely arrivals, security, and trustworthiness as part of its adaption. The collaboration will aid in the development of a robust Air India that will provide affordable and satisfying services to passengers across all their flight routes.

Air India nowadays offers business, economy, and first-class seating facilities, whereas Vistara offers economy, premium economy, and business classes. Once the merger is completed, passengers will have more options to choose a comfortable flight trip under one roof of the Tata group.

Imagine being on a long-haul flight from USA to India and getting more legroom during your journey. Oh! How comforting! Sleeping on a lie-flat bed will let you wake up fresh and relaxed. Also, you might get your hands on world-class amenity kits and get an option to pick delicacies from a well-curated menu. The complimentary alcoholic beverages are an added bonus! You will find all these and a lot more when flying in business or first class.

Premium passenger seats in business class and first class are expensive but offer the most comfort and facilities to fliers. But did you know that even after purchasing an economy ticket, you can upgrade to a premium class without spending an exorbitant amount?

If you are a frequent flier, you must be aware of seat upgradation. You might or might not have asked for a seat upgrade on international flights. Many premium airlines offer passengers an opportunity to bid for seat upgrades. This might be on select routes or on all long-haul flights. Although the bidding price differs from airline to airline, it will definitely be nearly half of the original cost of these premium classes.

How Do You Upgrade to a Premium Class?

Most of the airlines have the same process for bidding to upgrade seats. Once you make your booking, either of the two scenarios mentioned below might initiate the bidding process:

  1. You could receive an email offering you an opportunity to bid for an upgrade.
  2. You can check the airline’s website to see if your booking is eligible for bidding.

Which Airlines Allow You To Bid On Seat Upgrades?

If you are planning to travel to India from US, here are some of the top airlines that offer you an opportunity to place bids for seat upgrades.

Etihad Airways

The good news when flying by Etihad Airways is, no matter what your destination, you will be eligible to place bids for seat upgrades to a premium class. But if you have used any promotions, free tickets, guest seat rewards, redemption tickets, flier miles etc. while booking your ticket, you won’t be eligible for bidding. Etihad only lets you upgrade one class so if you have booked economy, you can go business or if you have booked business, you can upgrade to Etihad’s first class. Keep in mind that you will only earn Etihad Guest miles depending on the base rate plus 10 percent of the service bonus in case your bid is a success. Although you will be able to enjoy the inflight facilities, you will not be offered a chauffeur service when getting upgraded from economy

Lufthansa

Lufthansa allows you to upgrade from economy to premium economy only. Bids for seat upgrades are available on select long-haul flights that have premium economy. If you are eligible, you can visit the ‘myOffer’ section on Lufthansa’s website and place your bid. You might receive a bid acceptance notification at least 24-36 hours before your scheduled departure.

Singapore Airlines

Bids for seat upgrades in cash (U.S dollars) or KrisFlyer miles are available via ‘mySQupgrade’ by Singapore Airlines. You will also get an opportunity to make, change or cancel your bid for up to 50 hours before your scheduled departure. A notification is sent 40 hours before your flight  in case your bid is successful. You can only upgrade to a class above your original booking but if you are flying business, you won’t be able to upgrade to Singapore Suites

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific also allows you to bid one class up but this is only available on select flights. So, if you book premium economy, you can upgrade to business and if you are flying business, you can bid for Cathay Pacific’s first class.

Air India

Popular Indian air carrier, Air India also allows passengers to place bids for seat upgrades. You can check if you are eligible by entering your PNR number on their website. Then you can place your bid and hope for the best. This airline even allows you to modify or cancel your bid for up to 60 hours before your flight. If your Air India bid for upgrade is successful, you will receive an email at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure.

Other Airlines Offering Flight Upgrades

In case your bid is not successful, you can try getting an upgrade for a fixed amount or by using your travel miles from these airlines:

  1. Emirates
  2. United Airlines
  3. Delta Air Lines
  4. British Airways
  5. Qatar Airways

Air India to Resume San Francisco-BengaluruIsn’t waiting for connecting flights exhausting? Well, while some may take this time to explore the place during their layover, others are totally tired and bored. Most of the time, people look for ways to reach their destination faster; and this could be for an array of reasons, be it an emergency, a work meeting or just wanting to reunite with their loved ones soon.

Millions of people travel from India to USA and vice versa every year and these flights are one of the longest as most cities in India do not have a direct flight to different American cities. As airlines work towards easing their customers’ travel; Air India has a piece of good news!

Air India to Resume Bengaluru-San Francisco Flights from October-End

After suspending direct flight services from Bengaluru-San Francisco and back in March, Air India has announced that it will resume these from October-end this year. The carrier had previously suspended these flights because of the poor demand due to the COVID pandemic. But now as things are back to normal and there has been an increase in demand, the airline has decided to re-introduce the direct flights on this route.

Why You Must Choose Air India for Travel Between San Francisco and Bengaluru?

Air India is not only the biggest flight operator in the country but it is also the largest carrier offering nonstop flights between India and USA. One of the key benefits is that it still flies in the Russian airspace, which gives a short route to these flights decreasing the travel time significantly. It was also announced that the budget airline plans to lease nearly five Boeing 777 long range aircrafts that are likely to join the airline’s massive fleet between December and March next year.

How Many Direct Flights between San Francisco to Bengaluru will Air India Offer?

According to sources, Air India will operate two nonstop flights between San Francisco and Bengaluru every week from October-end.

Plans to Start Nonstop Flights Between San Francisco and Mumbai

Air India is also looking forward to start offering at least three nonstop flights between San Francisco and Mumbai every week. Although there hasn’t been any confirmation, sources believe this might begin from December 2022.

Air India plans to operate at least 40 flights every week from USA to India, once these new flights on the said routes are operational.

The launch of new airlines (Akasa Air) and resurrection – ownership change, relaunch et el – of old ones (Air India, Jet Airways) is certainly making things interesting in India’s aviation space. New routes, more flights, and more connectivity is the result. The same is not reflecting in the flight fare reduction rate is another matter. But flyers certainly have more options now; even if most are on the same old routes. Though increasing air connectivity in India – be it in metros or smaller towns – is rather an interesting development.

A Closer Examination

Air India has been announcing new updates one after another. The newest one is about the airline planning to offer 24 new flights in August 2022 itself. The airline, essentially, will offer more flights for connecting metro cities. For instance, now expect more flights from Delhi to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and also Ahmedabad. Mumbai will also connect with Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai via more Air India flights. There will be more flights from Ahmedabad to Pune as well.

Akasa Air is also ready to offer new flights by the end of next month. The plans are ready to offer more flights on its current routes of Bengaluru to Mumbai, Mumbai to Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru to Kochi. There are already plans to offer one additional flight for Bengaluru-Mumbai route by the end of August. New routes will also begin from September such as Bengaluru to Chennai.

As of now; neither Akasa nor Air India is offering new connectivity from metros to tier II cities. With so many small-town airports in India now operational, it is surprising that no new connections are in the offing for new routes. IndiGo still remains the only airline to offer the most flights to tier II and tier III cities.

One of India’s leading airlines, Air India was established in 1932 by Sir J.R.D. Tata. It flew from Karachi to Juhu Aerodrome in Mumbai, later the flight continued to Chennai. In 1952, the government announced the merger of all private airlines to be run completely by the government. But after almost 68 years in early 2022, the airline returned to where it belonged, to the Tatas.

A Brief history of Air India

Air India (AI) was founded as Tata Airlines in the year 1932 by J.R.D. Tata. An interesting fact that many aren’t aware of is that Tata himself flew the first single-engine aircraft that carried air mail to Juhu aerodrome in Bombay all the way from Karachi. The flight then continued on to Chennai (then Madras). The airline was renamed Air India post World War II along with becoming a Public Limited Company. Maharaja, the mascot of Air India (AI) is famous worldwide and must be credited with increasing the popularity of the airline across the globe.

Destinations Air India Serves

According to the estimates of 2019, Air India operates between 102 domestic destinations along with nearly 45 international ones. It serves between 31 countries across the five continents around the world. The popular airline has a primary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and a secondary hub at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

Air India Fleet

Air India (AI) uses a series of Airbus and Boeing aircraft to serve various destinations across the globe. Several of these are wide body aircrafts that offer utmost comfort to passengers while traveling over long international flight journeys. The Air India aircraft that usually carries the President, Vice-President or Prime Minister of India has the call sign of Air India One.

It was recently announced that the new owners of the airline, the Tata Group are planning to restore Air India planes and renovate these to start commercial operations. The airlines now have several widebody and narrow body aircrafts that were not in use due to the lack of engine overhaul or because of the unavailability of some components or spares. But if everything goes as planned, these will be able to fly and resume operations; which in turn will increase the airline’s fleet

Air India to Acquire the Complete Stake of AirAsia India

The airline industry will witness another takeover as AirIndia will acquire the complete stake of debt-ridden AirAsia India. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) also gave an approval for this acquisition on 14th June 2022. It already had around 83.67% of the equity share earlier. After the deal is sealed, Air India will get the remaining 16% of the shares from AirAsia Berhad, which is a top Malaysian airline group. This will increase Air India’s share in the Indian domestic market by upto 25%.

Latest News: Air India is planning to expand its global footprint and as part of the attempts for the same, the airline is reportedly negotiating with United Airlines and other members of the Star Alliance group for codeshare agreements.

According to a news report by the Economic Times, “the airline is stepping up on its global ambitions and wants to give flyers a seamless experience of overseas travel. This is part of refurbishing the brand and product.”

Reports also suggested that Air India is in talks with United Airlines over codeshare agreement for the last few months, but the Chicago-based airline has not confirmed anything on this as of now.

Star alliance, a group of 20 airlines, is the world’s largest global airline alliance. Air India, United Airlines, Air France, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and other premium airlines are among its members. It was founded in 1997 with the aim of creating a single network for global passengers.

Air India signed its last codeshare agreement in 2019 with Fiji Airways. India’s national carrier was handed to the Tata Group officially in January this year, after the Indian conglomerate won the bid to take over the debt-ridden airline. The new owner of Air India is bent on restoring Maharaja’s lost glory; with focus areas on fleet and cabin upgrade, On-Time Performance (OTP) improvement, and in-flight service enhancement among others. Air India is also revamping its back-end ticket reservation system and working on addressing the issues in customer support and product experience.
