How to Get OCI Card in USA: A Step-by-Step Guide
Source: Travel Dairy

Obtaining an OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) card from the USA involves a structured online and offline process managed by the Indian government through its consulates and VFS Global centers. This lifelong visa-like document grants people of Indian origin multiple-entry rights to India with visa-free travel up to 180 days.

Eligibility Criteria

You qualify for a new OCI card if you’re a foreign national of Indian origin (previously held an Indian passport or are a child/grandchild of such a person), their spouse, or minor children. Proof of Indian origin is essential, such as old Indian passports, birth certificates issued in India, or parents’/grandparents’ Indian documents. Naturalized US citizens must also show renunciation/surrender certificates if applicable post-2010.

Required Documents

Gather these before starting (checklists vary slightly by consulate jurisdiction like Seattle, San Francisco, or Atlanta):

  • Current US passport (valid 6+ months, with signature page).
  • Proof of Indian origin (e.g., old Indian passport, birth certificate).
  • Naturalization certificate or birth certificate from outside India.
  • Renunciation/surrender certificate (post-2010 naturalization).
  • Two recent passport photos (specified size/format).
  • Printed online application form with tracking number.
Minors need additional parental documents; spouses require marriage proof. All must be uploaded online in PDF (max 1MB each).

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Visit ociservices.gov.in, confirm eligibility, and fill Part A/B of the online form accurately. This will generate a unique tracking number (e.g., USAT).
  2. Upload all documents on the OCI portal, submit, and download/print the form.
  3. Log into VFS Global (services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-oci-services), create/link profile, upload the form/docs again, and pay fees online (includes VFS service charge).
  4. Book an appointment at your jurisdictional VFS center (based on US residence), then ship physical docs via FedEx/UPS or drop off.
  5. Track status on VFS/OCI portals; processing takes 5-6 weeks typically.

Jurisdictional VFS Centers

Submit OCI applications to the VFS India Consular Application Centre (ICAC) based on your current US residence state, not your state of origin or consulate preference.

How to Find Your Center

  • Visit the VFS Global site at services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/attend-centre to select your center by state and book an appointment if needed.
  • Check consulate websites (e.g., indiainseattle.gov.in for Seattle jurisdiction or cgisf.gov.in for San Francisco) for jurisdiction maps and addresses.
  • Use the interactive center locator on the VFS portal by entering your ZIP code for precise matching.

Key Examples by Consulate Jurisdiction

Consulate States Covered Example VFS Center
Seattle WA, OR, ID, AK Bellevue, WA
Atlanta AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN, PR Atlanta, GA; Orlando, FL
Chicago IL, IN, MI, MN, ND, OH, WI Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI
Houston AR, KS, LA, OK, TX Houston, TX; Dallas, TX
New York CT, KY, ME, NH, NJ, NY, OH (part), PA, RI, VT New York, NY; Edison, NJ; Boston, MA
San Francisco CA (north), NV, UT, WY San Francisco, CA; San Jose, CA

How to Submit Your OCI Application by Mail or In Person

Mail OCI applications via UPS or FedEx to your jurisdictional VFS India Consular Application Centre (ICAC); trackable shipping ensures secure delivery.

In-Person Availability

In-person submission is optional at select ICACs, typically Monday to Saturday. Newer centers offer Saturday hours (e.g., 9 AM–1 PM) for flexibility; confirm via VFS site by selecting your state.

Current ICAC Network

Over 16 ICACs operate nationwide, expanded in 2025 with additions like Boston, Dallas, Raleigh, Columbus, Detroit, Edison, Orlando, and San Jose. A Los Angeles center opened later in 2025, totaling 17; all handle OCI via VFS.

Verification Steps

Verification ensures your OCI application reaches the correct VFS Global center based on your US residence, avoiding rejections or delays. Always cross-check official sources before submitting documents.

  • Visit the VFS Global portal at services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/attend-centre to confirm the latest center addresses, operating hours, appointment availability, and holiday closures.
  • Identify your jurisdictional Indian Consulate (e.g., Seattle for WA/OR/ID/AK, Atlanta for AL/GA/NC/SC, San Francisco for northern CA) via consulate websites like indiainseattle.gov.in or cgisf.gov.in.
  • Check your US residential address against the VFS jurisdiction map on the portal or consulate pages to select the right center—jurisdiction is based on home state, not origin.
  • Review consulate-specific OCI pages (e.g., indiainatlanta.gov.in for processing times or checklists) for any local requirements or updates.
  • Verify document submission options (in-person appointment, premium lounge, or courier drop-off) and track status links on both VFS and ociservices.gov.in portals post-submission.

Fees and Payment

OCI application fees vary by applicant type and service; adults pay $275 for a new card, while minors under 18 pay $100. Additional charges include a $3 Indian Community Welfare Fee (ICWF) and VFS service fees of $16–$40 depending on submission method. Complete all payments online via credit/debit card on the VFS Global portal during registration. No cash is accepted at centers. Fees are non-refundable, even for rejected or incomplete applications. Opt for courier return service (approximately $20 via UPS/FedEx) if you want your OCI card mailed back securely. Total costs typically range $300–$350 for adults, excluding shipping. Confirm exact amounts on services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind as rates can update.

Processing Time and Tracking

The OCI application usually takes about 5 to 6 weeks to process after VFS receives the complete application. Delays may occur if the submitted documents are incomplete or require additional verification. Applicants can track the status of their application through the OCI portal using the application number or through the VFS Global website. Once the application is approved, the OCI card is shipped back to the applicant. In some cases, it may be collected directly from the Indian Mission or Consulate if required.

Benefits of OCI Card

  • OCI card provides lifelong, multiple-entry access to India without needing a separate visa.
  • There are no limits on total stay duration in India; stays up to 180 days do not require registration or FRRO/police reporting.
  • OCI holders qualify for the same domestic airfare rates as resident Indians on internal flights.
  • Cardholders pay the same entry fees as Indian citizens for national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, monuments, and museums.

  • They may practice professions such as medicine, dentistry, law, pharmacy, architecture, or accounting on par with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

OCI holders are eligible for teaching roles in premier institutions like IITs, IIMs, and central universities.
  • OCI cardholders receive parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) for all-India entrance exams such as NEET and JEE, including access to NRI quota seats.
  • OCI holders benefit from simplified procedures for inter-country adoption of Indian children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for an OCI card if my old Indian passport is lost?
Yes. If your old Indian passport is lost, you can still apply for an OCI card. However, you must provide alternative proof of Indian origin such as a birth certificate, parents’ Indian passport, or an Indian government document showing your Indian nationality. In some cases, the consulate may request an affidavit explaining the lost passport.

Do OCI applicants need to surrender their Indian passport first?
Yes. If you became a US citizen after holding an Indian passport, you must surrender your Indian passport before applying for an OCI card. After surrendering it, you will receive a Surrender Certificate, which is a required document for the OCI application.

Do minors need separate OCI cards?
Yes. Every child must have a separate OCI card, even if their parents already hold OCI cards. Parents must submit the child’s birth certificate, passports of both parents, and proof of Indian origin when applying.

What happens if your OCI card is lost in the USA?
If your OCI card is lost, you must apply for a duplicate OCI card through the OCI portal and VFS Global. You will need to submit a police report, a copy of the lost OCI card if available, and a new application form.

Can OCI cardholders stay in India indefinitely?
Yes. OCI cardholders can stay in India for any length of time without registration with the police or FRRO, unlike many visa holders who must report their stay.

Do OCI cardholders need to register with the police in India?
No. OCI cardholders are exempt from police registration regardless of how long they stay in India.

Is OCI the same as dual citizenship?
No. India does not allow dual citizenship. OCI is only a long-term visa and residency status, not full Indian citizenship.

There has been a 3x increase in business class bookings on international flights. On long-haul USA-India routes, many travelers now choose premium cabins like Premium Economy and Business Class. The leading operator on the route, Air India, is also planning to add more premium seats as part of its broader expansion plans.

Air India nonstop flights remain a popular choice for convenience, though recent airspace restrictions have added to travel time. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways continues to attract those seeking luxury through its Qsuites. This article explores Qatar Airways Qsuites vs Air India business class on the Airbus A350, helping you decide what’s best for your trip.

Qatar Airways QSuites vs Air India Business Class in A350

A350 Fleet

When adding widebody aircraft to their fleets, most airlines are now opting for Airbus A350 for operational flexibility, superior fuel efficiency and of course passenger comfort. Qatar Airways was the launch customer and largest operator of A350, having 58 A350 jets in service and 18 on order. Meanwhile, Air India fleet only has 6 Airbus A350s in service and 44 are on order.

Award-Winning Business Class Airline

Qatar Airways has been winning the title of “World’s Best Business Class” for nine consecutive years now at the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards. From lounges to inflight services, Qatar Airways offers the best business class product. Air India, on the other hand, is trying to enhance its business class offering after the takeover by Tatas.

While Air India Boeing 777 is often criticized for its older aircraft, broken seats, sub-par inflight entertainment system and 2-3-2 seating configuration. The new Air India A350 business class offers spacious business class seats and cleaner cabins. Although many believe the Qatar Airways QSuites are still better.

Best Business Class Seat

When traveling, comfortable and spacious seats are what passengers need. Qatar Airways takes a lead here as the airline’s QSuite has been awarded “World’s Best Business Class seat” by Skytrax. According to a passenger who flew from Dallas to Delhi via Doha, Qatar Airways A350 Qsuite has 46 seats. 38 in the front cabin and 8 more behind the business class entry. The 1-2-1 layout ensures each passenger gets direct aisle access. The footwell is generous, the spacious Qatar Airways business class seat transforms into a fully flat bed with 180° recline and doors ensure complete privacy.

While Air India business class seats on Boeing 777 were significantly older and criticized, the seats on the new Airbus A350 aircraft are well-received by passengers. The business class cabins in Air India A350s have 28 seats, all of which fit between the front and second doors. When compared to Qatar Airways, Air India has a smaller business class cabin but follows the same 1-2-1 layout. Air India passengers in business class also get a 79” full flat bed with privacy doors, making it a perfect private suite.

Award-Winning Airport Lounge

Qatar Airways’ Al Mourjan Lounge- The Garden at Hamad International Airport has been named the World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge at the Skytrax Awards 2025. The lounge offers exceptional services for passengers traveling from the USA to India via Doha. Open 24/7, it features a spa, quiet rooms, fitness center and fine dining options. What sets it apart is access to the world’s first Louis Vuitton Lounge by Yannick Alléno, reserved for Qatar Airways business class and first class travelers. Qatar Airways has also partnered with many airport lounges in USA and India to offer business class travelers a comfortable airport experience.

Air India lounges are available both in India and USA. The Air India Maharaja Lounge at JFK Airport is located at Terminal 4 and is open for business class passengers from 10:30 AM to 8 PM. It offers standard lounge facilities, including comfortable seating, complimentary food, internet access and accessibility support. Air India has also partnered with other premium lounges like Swissport Lounge at Chicago O’Hare and SAS Lounge at Newark Liberty to offer passengers lounge experience. As the Maharaja Lounge at Delhi’s T3 is under renovations, the airline has partnered with Encalm Privé lounge

Nonstop Flights from USA to India

Qatar Airways does not operate nonstop flights between the USA and India. Instead, it offers one-stop connections via Doha from major U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Miami. Travel time depends on the layover in Doha. For example, flight 702 / 578 from New York JFK to Delhi takes around 18 hours 25 minutes, while flight 704 / 578 on the same route can take up to 29 hours 5 minutes.

Air India takes the lead as the primary operator of nonstop flights between India and the USA. The airline currently flies nonstop to New York JFK, Newark, San Francisco, and Chicago. However, flights between Washington and India will be suspended starting September 1. Air India has also reduced frequencies on some USA-India routes, while recent airspace restrictions have extended travel times on others. A JFK-Delhi nonstop still takes about 15 hours 30 minutes, but one-stop options can stretch the journey to nearly 20 hours 15 minutes.

*Qatar Airways and Air India operate A350s on select routes, but aircraft type is subject to change as per airline policy.

Best Airfare Between USA and India

Air India is often the more affordable choice for business class travelers. For example, a one-way Air India business class ticket from JFK to DEL on October 8 costs about $3,772 on IndianEagle.com. On the same date, a Qatar Airways business class ticket for the same route is around $6,134. Air India also has the advantage of a nonstop flight, while Qatar Airways offers a one-stop connection via Doha.

If you want a budget-friendly nonstop flight, Air India is the right choice. But if luxury lounges and world-class cabins matter more, Qatar Airways is hard to beat. “Wait, you didn’t pay Rs 90K for that flight to Hyderabad?”

Nope. Not even close.

Let’s talk about a little secret frequent flyers have known for years: flight price alerts.

There’s no trick to it, no illusion involved. It’s all about timing and letting technology take care of the hard part.

What Are Flight Alerts Anyway?

Picture them as quiet watchers in the background, tracking every shift in price while you go about your day. Whether it’s sleep, work, or your favorite show, they stay on alert for the moment to strike.

You just tell them where you want to go, and they whisper back:

“Hey… fares just dropped Rs 12,000.”

Here’s How to Use Fare Alerts Like a Pro

Set Alerts Early for Better Deals: There’s a pattern to how fares behave, and it often starts playing out long before travel day arrives. That’s why setting alerts early gives you an edge. Airlines begin tweaking prices well in advance based on internal data models, and early alerts help you catch those quiet movements. The more time you spend tracking, the better you understand fare behavior, which helps you recognize a true deal when it comes along and act with certainty.

Stay Flexible with Dates and Airports: You don’t always need big changes to save big. A small tweak in dates or switching to a different airport nearby can often result in lower prices. Fare alerts automatically factor in these options, bringing flexibility-based savings straight to you.

Recognize a Good Deal When You See One: If a one-way fare is usually Rs 60,000 and you spot Rs 44,000, that’s your cue to move. Alerts can flag the drop, but quick action is up to you. Airlines use dynamic pricing, which means fares can disappear within hours based on demand. Missing the moment often comes with a higher price tag. Being aware of standard fare patterns helps you act confidently when a true deal comes along.

Set Multiple Fare Alerts for Better Coverage: It’s smart to start with a fare alert for your perfect trip dates and route, but adding more alerts with flexible options can make a big difference. Try tracking flights that leave a day before or after, or include alternate airports nearby. Fares can fluctuate based on slight changes in timing or location, and the lowest rates are often hidden just outside your original filters. A small shift in travel plans could lead to a much smaller price tag.

Act Quickly When You Get a Fare Alert: Low fares move fast in a system driven by supply and demand. The alert gives you the advantage, but the clock starts ticking the moment it lands. Delaying could mean missing a rare price drop, especially on high-traffic routes. If the fare fits, it’s smart to book before the window closes.

Keep Alerts Active Even After Booking: Don’t switch off your fare alerts just because you’ve secured a ticket. With many airlines offering flexible booking options, a price drop after your purchase could still work in your favor. A flexible fare may give you access to post-booking benefits like lower rebooking costs, refunds, or travel credits if prices decrease.

What Makes Indian Eagle Fare Alerts So Reliable?

Now here’s the part most first-timers miss: where you set those alerts matters. IndianEagle.com takes a long-term view when it comes to the U.S.–India travel. It isn’t just a generic booking platform; it’s designed specifically around this travel corridor. That focus ensures its fare alerts stay tightly tuned to flights that actually matter. No unnecessary clutter. No irrelevant promotions for destinations you’re not interested in.

Choose your route, set your date range, and define your budget. Indian Eagle Fare Alerts take over from there, tracking fares in real time to find the perfect moment to book. No more endless refreshing or second-guessing. And yes, they also roll out limited-time deals, festival season discounts, and fare drops that often don’t make it to the big headlines.

Conclusion

This isn’t about tricks. It’s about timing. The kind of timing that saves you ₹10K here, Rs 15K there, and adds up to another vacation or an extra gift for family back home. Let alerts work while you live. And when it comes to India–US routes, let IndianEagle.com be the one in your corner, watching the skies and delivering the best Indian Eagle flight deals when they matter most.

To all the frequent travelers reading this, have you ever heard of TSA PreCheck? We bet you have. Like many travelers, do you also imagine what is this program and how can you get it? In simple words, TSA PreCheck is an expedited program that you can use to speed up the airport processes. The airport programs like TSA PreCheck are formulated for different types of travelers –who are frequent traveler or doesn’t even have a passport.  In this blog, you will find all information related to the TSA PreCheck Program to help you understand if it is a beneficial thing for you. Read on for the key elements of TSA PreCheck.

What do you get from TSA PreCheck?

TSA PreCheck offers you an expedited passage to get through the Transportation Security Administration at several airports in the United States and dozens of major airlines when flying domestically. With TSA, you can easily pass through the security without removing the shoes, taking off your jacket or belt, and taking out any liquids and electronics from your bag. According to reports, a passenger with TSA PreCheck needs to wait hardly 5 minutes to get through the airport security. Aren’t these TSA PreCheck benefits tempting?

How can you get TSA PreCheck?

If you are interested in getting TSA PreCheck, you have to apply online for the pre-approval. Once you are pre-approved, you will be asked to schedule a meeting for the back ground check and a necessary 10-minute interview. The background check involves in-person fingerprinting. You will also require some important documents like an unexpired U.S. photo identification card issued by the government and proof of citizenship (driver’s license or passport and birth certificate). Enrolling to the TSA PreCheck program will cost you around $85 (price may wary) for five years. After successful enrollment, you will receive a ‘known travel number’ which you must provide while booking cheap flight tickets to ensure you can use TSA PreCheck privileges.

Can you get your family through TSA PreCheck?

According to the rules of TSA PreCheck, children below the age of 13 years can have the privilege of expedited TSA PreCheck line, no matter they are enrolled in the program or not. However, travelers of age 13 years and above are not allowed to get through the TSA PreCheck lane. They will have to go towards the regular security check-in desk.

Does TSA PreCheck guarantee expedited passage through security?

No. According to a statement made by the TSA, any unpredictable security measure is noticed by it and every passenger without the ISA PreCheck will have to go through security scanning. The ones enrolled with TSA expedited program will have the benefit of expedited screening, provided it is offered at the airport and the airlines you are flying in.

When should I renew my TSA PreCheck?

Your TSA PreCheck Membership remains valid for five years post which you need to reapply for the program.

Are all airports and airlines participating in the TSA PreCheck program?

No. Currently, around 200 U.S. airports and 70 airlines are a part of the expedited program. It is essential to check the list or participating airports and airlines before enrolling in the program to ensure you can have maximum benefit from the purchase. Check if your home airport has a place in the list of airports. Like if you are from San Francisco, make sure there is TSA PreCheck at SFO airport.

Will my credit card or loyalty program cover the price of TSA PreCheck?

It is possible. Some credit cards, mainly the ones that charge a fee will cover or reimburse the charges you pay for TSA PreCheck. You can refer to the list of credit cards offering TSA PreCheck cover feature online.

Can I cover international travel by TSA PreCheck?

Not exactly. TSA is an acronym for ‘U.S. Transportation Security Administration’ and thus it exclusively applies to domestic departures at airports where TSA officers have complete jurisdiction and separate lanes for TSA PreCheck is set up. The reason behind saying ‘not exactly’ is that it applies to the departures from U.S. to foreign countries but not while returning to the United States from a country abroad. Another condition where the TSA PreCheck doesn’t apply is while you go through the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) screening.

To sum up, being a frequent traveler from the United States of America, you can get enrolled in the TSA PreCheck program and have the privilege of saving crucial time at the airport. No hassle of waiting in long queues at the security check lines. Just get through the security customs within a few minutes.

Experience the future of Airbus cabins with their latest concept, Airspace Cabin Vision 2035+. Discover the revolutionary designs, sustainability initiatives, and digitalization plans that will shape the cabins of tomorrow. The unveiling of this visionary concept at a virtual conference sets the stage for an exciting era of aviation innovation.

A Sneak Peek into Tomorrow’s Cabins

During a recent virtual conference, Airbus provided a tantalizing glimpse into their Airspace Cabin Vision 2035+. This concept, developed in collaboration with ten prominent airlines and eight technology firms, outlines Airbus’ vision for aircraft cabins from 2035 onwards. The insights gained from extensive passenger surveys ensure that these cabins meet the evolving needs and desires of future travelers.

Three Pillars: Transparency, Decarbonization, and Circularity

Airbus’ cabin designs are built upon three fundamental pillars. The first pillar focuses on transparency, establishing a traceable lifecycle system that encompasses product design, retrofitting, and customization. The second pillar prioritizes decarbonization, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of cabins and contribute to industry-wide sustainability goals. The third pillar, circularity, emphasizes rethinking, recycling, repairing, and reusing materials to create a more sustainable aviation industry.

Lightweight and Sustainable Innovations

Drawing inspiration from nature, Airbus explores bionic designs that can reduce cabin weight by up to 40%, resulting in significant emissions savings. The ingenious use of lightweight materials and eco-friendly manufacturing techniques is at the core of their sustainability initiatives. Imagine cabins that are not only comfortable but also contribute to a greener future.

Enhanced A220 Cabins: Airspace Integration

Airbus is also bringing their Airspace concept to the A220 aircraft, offering customers an upgraded cabin experience. The Airspace XL Bins, designed for increased capacity and reduced weight, along with improved passenger service units, will be available from 2025 onwards. These enhancements will transform the A220, offering airlines greater flexibility and an enhanced passenger experience.

Exciting Prospects for the A220 Program

With over 250 A220 aircraft already in service worldwide, Airbus continues to innovate and expand its offerings. Notably, Delta Air Lines, the largest A220 customer, and airBaltic, an all-A220 airline, are enjoying the benefits of this advanced aircraft. Speculation of an A220-500 variant announcement at the upcoming Paris Air Show adds to the anticipation, potentially opening new possibilities for even larger passenger capacities.

Embrace the future of aviation with Airbus as they reimagine and redefine the cabins of tomorrow. Innovation, sustainability, and passenger comfort merge to create a truly remarkable journey. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Airbus as they continue to shape the future of air travel.

When it comes to choosing an airline for their travel needs, travelers consider various factors that influence their preferences, loyalty, and booking behavior. From pricing and convenience to service quality and loyalty programs, these factors play a crucial role in shaping travelers’ decisions. Let’s delve into the key factors influencing airline preferences and booking behavior. And explore how airlines can cater to these preferences to attract and retain customers.

Pricing and Value for Money

Price is often a key consideration for travelers. They compare ticket prices across different airlines to find the best deal that offers value for money. While budget-conscious travelers may prioritize lower fares, others may be willing to pay a premium for added benefits such as flexibility in ticket changes or more inclusive fares. Airlines that offer competitive pricing and transparent fare structures are more likely to capture the attention of cost-conscious travelers.

Flight Schedule and Convenience

flight price decrease

The convenience of flight schedules plays a crucial role in travelers’ decisions. Airlines that offer a wide range of departure and arrival times, as well as multiple route options, give travelers the flexibility to plan their trips according to their preferences. Additionally, airlines that operate from well-connected airports and provide efficient ground services contribute to a seamless travel experience.

Service Quality and Reputation

Service quality and reputation greatly impact travelers’ choices. It is one of the key factors influencing airline preferences and booking behavior. Positive experiences, such as friendly and attentive staff, comfortable seating, on-time departures, and efficient baggage handling, enhance overall customer satisfaction. Airlines that consistently deliver exceptional service and prioritize customer needs are more likely to gain loyal customers and positive word-of-mouth recommendations.

Safety and Reliability

Safety and reliability are paramount for travelers when choosing an airline. Airlines that have a strong safety record, adhere to strict maintenance and operational standards, and invest in modern aircraft instill confidence in passengers. Regularly updated safety protocols, transparent communication about safety measures, and efficient crisis management procedures create trust and positively influence travelers’ preferences.

Loyalty Programs and Rewards

Loyalty programs play a significant role in travelers’ booking behavior. Airlines with robust loyalty programs that offer attractive rewards, such as free flights, upgrades, priority boarding, and access to exclusive lounges, can significantly influence travelers’ choices. Providing personalized offers and incentives to loyal customers further strengthens their allegiance to the airline.

Ancillary Services and In-Flight Amenities

Travelers appreciate airlines that offer a range of ancillary services and in-flight amenities to enhance their travel experience. These may include Wi-Fi connectivity, in-flight entertainment, comfortable seating options, quality meals, and extra legroom. Airlines that go the extra mile to provide these additional services create a positive impression and differentiate themselves from competitors.

Brand Reputation and Image

The brand reputation and image of an airline significantly impact travelers’ perceptions and preferences. Airlines that have a strong brand presence, positive customer reviews, and a distinct identity are more likely to attract travelers. Establishing a clear brand message that resonates with the target audience helps create a strong emotional connection and fosters loyalty.

Environmental Sustainability

In recent years, travelers have shown an increased interest in airlines that prioritize environmental sustainability. Airlines that demonstrate commitment to reducing their carbon footprint through initiatives such as fuel-efficient aircraft, waste reduction, and carbon offset programs appeal to environmentally conscious travelers. Incorporating sustainable practices and communicating these efforts can positively influence travelers’ preferences.

These are several factors influencing airline preferences and booking behavior. Airlines that understand these factors and tailor their services accordingly have a better chance of attracting and retaining loyal customers. By focusing on pricing, convenience, service quality, loyalty programs, safety, in-flight amenities, brand reputation, and environmental sustainability, airlines can create a competitive edge in the industry and provide a positive travel experience for their customers.

The subvariant of Omicron BF.7 has caused a massive surge in COVID cases across China. With this, other countries have started taking several precautions in order to avoid a similar situation. Acting quick on the recent developments, India has also issued fresh international travel guidelines for travelers visiting the country.

As the COVID-19  cases were in control, many travel restrictions were eased last month, which also included the discontinuation of the Air Suvidha portal. But as the COVID cases continue to rise in China and numerous other countries, the Union Health Ministry issued some international travel guidelines for people traveling through flights to India. Some of them are mentioned below:

  1. Thermal screening of all international passengers visiting India has already begun from 24th December.
  2. Passengers flying via international flights should be completely vaccinated and must carry the proof of their vaccination.
  3. Random testing of nearly 2% of international passengers has already begun at various airports in India
  4. If any passenger is found to have COVID symptoms during the screening, he/she will be asked to be isolated and sent to a medical facility to receive proper health care.
  5. If a passenger is randomly selected for a COVID-19 test, he/she can leave after the collection of the sample and is not required to wait until the results.
  6. In case any passenger’s COVID-19 test results come back positive, the samples shall be sent to INSACOG laboratory network for genetic testing.
  7. Although children under the age of 12 years will not be randomly tested, they might be asked to take a test in case they are found symptomatic.
  8. Travelers should also wear masks and continue to take care of basic hygiene practices such as sanitization of hands.
  9. Passengers must also keep a check on their health and reach out to the nearest health facility or connect via the national helpline number; 1075, in case of medical emergencies.
  10. The Union Health Ministry has now made it mandatory for international passengers flying from China, Japan, Thailand, South Korea and Hong Kong to fill out the Air Suvidha form. Although it hasn’t been made compulsory for arrivals from other countries, it might become mandatory for passengers on all international flights landing in India based on the COVID cases in different countries.

What does this Mean for Tourism in India?

The situation in India is under control with nearly 3,428 active COVID-19 infections. With random testing across various airports and masks being made mandatory at certain places, precautions are being taken to avoid a surge in India. Tourism in India will not be majorly affected unless a lockdown is announced, which looks unlikely as of now. Apart from these, many tourist attractions have revised their travel restrictions. For instance, it is now mandatory for international tourists visiting Taj Mahal to take a COVID-19 test.

If you are traveling to India soon, it is recommended to adhere to all these international travel guidelines. If you are cautious, your trip to India will be as amazing as you have planned!

Holiday travel has been severely affected by the massive winter storm Elliott that has been raging across the US. More than 4,400 flights are reported to be canceled at various airports in the country in the past two days. Delta Air Lines has canceled almost 230 flights (140 on Thursday and 90 on Friday) and it is further expected to cancel more due to the storm impacting operations specifically in the Northeast region and Detroit.

8,450 flights were delayed on Thursday alone and one-third of them were operated by major airlines such as United Airlines, American Airline, and Southwest Airlines

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) blizzard-like conditions were being created in the Midwest due to the on-going winter storm. Hence, travel disruptions in Detroit, Chicago, and Minneapolis-St. Paul are likely. Until Thursday evening, almost 25 percent of flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport were canceled. While 37 percent of them were canceled at Chicago Midway International Airport; Denver International Airport had 27 percent flight cancellations.

Many airlines alerted their passengers about the possibility of snow, strong winds, and cold temperatures affecting travel between Seattle-Boston-North Carolina as well.

Flights are likely to get majorly affected at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport and Denver International Airport today, i.e, Friday.

Change Fee Waived by Major Airlines

Due to the snow storm disrupting travel across USA, many airlines have informed their passengers that they won’t be charging a change fee. American Airline has already issued a waiver for almost 87 airports in the Northeast Midwest and parts of the East Coast. This allows passengers affected by the snow storm to rebook another flight. Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue have also issued travel advisories and notifications informing the passengers about the change fee waiver. If you are flying via any of these airlines, you can check their websites for further information.

How to Deal with Flight Delays and Cancellations?

A delay in your flight or a cancellation can impact your travel plans, especially when it’s during the festive season. Here are some tips that might help you deal with a delay or cancellation of flights.

  1. Arrive at the airport on time. Even if your flight is delayed, it’s a better idea to reach the airport on time as the flight schedules are subject to change, especially when it’s due to the weather.
  2. Keep a check on your flight’s status, reach out to the airline via a call or through their website. You can also contact them on any social media platform such as Twitter.
  3. Look for alternative flights through a different airline/airport/route in case your flight is canceled.
  4. Head to a lounge and wait until your flight’s departure if you are traveling through business class or first class. You can also use your credit cards or any kind of membership to get access into world-class lounges such as Plaza Premium Lounges
  5. If your flight is delayed for long or canceled at an odd hour, you can consider checking out airport hotels as these are not just closest to the airport but will also provide you with a comfortable and safe stay, especially during this bad weather.
  6. When you get information about your flight’s delay or cancellation in advance, you can reach the airport early in order to get a seat on any stand-by flight leaving that airport on the same day.

Find the best deals on cheap flights to India from USA and save more during your travel in the upcoming New Year. So, why wait? Book your itinerary today!

As the world is going digital, most of the things even in the travel industry are being done electronically. And as a growing IT hub, India too is introducing an array of latest technologies to benefit its citizens and tourists. A beta version of one such new service, the DigiYatra program was successfully introduced at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on 15th August this year.

And now the Ministry of Civil Aviation has rolled out DigiYatra at 3 airports in India. It is aimed to make the boarding process digital and seamless. Further improvising the security, the departure control system of the particular airline the passengers are flying with will verify their data.

Faces to be the New Boarding Passes

Through DigiYatra’s facial recognition technology, passengers will be able to pass through various checkpoints at the airport without physical IDs or boarding passes. This could sound surprising to many but now your face can act as your boarding pass!

Which Airports in India have Implemented the DigiYatra Program?

The Civil Aviation Ministry of India has introduced the DigiYatra Program at one of the three major airports in India on 1st December. These airports are mentioned below:

  1. Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
  2. Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi.
  3. Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore.

DigiYatra is also believed to be implemented in a phased manner across various other airports in India by next year.

How to Get Paperless Entry at the DigiYatra-Enabled Airports in India?

If you are flying through Delhi, Bangalore or Varanasi, you can avail a paperless and hassle-free entry by following these steps:

Step 1: Download the DigiYatra app from the app store.

Step 2: Register your details on the DigiYatra app.

Step 3: Provide the required Aadhar-based details.

Step 4: Click your selfie for the DigiYatra app.

Step 5: Scan your boarding pass to update in the app.

Step 6: Your credentials will be shared with the airport (Delhi, Bangalore or Varanasi).

Step 7: Go ahead and scan the bar coded boarding pass at the e-gate of the airport.

Step 8: Your identity and travel documents will be validated by the ‘facial recognition system’ at the e-gate.

Step 9: You will now be allowed to enter the airport via the e-gate.

Step 10: Now you can board the aircraft after going through the regular security clearance procedures.

With new travel apps such as DigiYatra, technology has been revolutionizing the tourism sector. With these innovations, you never know, you might soon be able to also see the advent of Metaverse tourism in India.

You can book cheap flight tickets from USA to India via Indian Eagle and travel to these cities at affordable prices. So, why wait? Plan your itinerary today and get ready to go through a seamless boarding process via DigiYatra.
