Why Sail250 events are great 4th July 2026 celebrations
Tall ship festivals have visited American ports before, but Sail250 in 2026 will be unlike anything seen in years. Historic sailing vessels, naval training ships, and military vessels from across the globe will gather in US waters to celebrate America’s milestone birthday.
Visitors will be able to board many of these ships, meet sailors and cadets from different countries, learn about centuries-old maritime traditions, and experience waterfront festivals filled with music, food, cultural performances, and educational exhibits.

Sail250 Virginia (Norfolk), June 19-23
The Sail250 Virginia celebrations begin with the arrival of international tall ships and naval vessels along the waterfront of Norfolk. During the five-day event, visitors board participating ships, meet sailors and cadets from around the world, enjoy waterfront concerts, cultural performances, educational exhibits, and family-friendly activities. As home to the world’s largest naval base, Norfolk also showcases military vessels and maritime traditions that have shaped the city’s history.
Sail250 Maryland (Baltimore), June 24-30
From June 24 to 30, Maryland is hosting Sail250 at Baltimore’s historic inner Harbor. It is a week-long maritime festival featuring public tall ship tours, crew meet-and-greets, waterfront entertainment, food vendors, and cultural programs. One of the biggest attractions is Baltimore’s Sail250 airshow by a fleet of military aircraft over the harbor. Visitors can also enjoy evening events, live music, educational exhibits, and opportunities to explore some of the world’s most famous sailing vessels.
Sail4th 250 New York & New Jersey, July 3-8
At the center of Sail250 events celebrating the fourth of July 2026 is Sail4th 250 in New York and New Jersey, from July 3 to 8. Millions of spectators are expected to gather along the waterfront during the six-day celebration. Here’s the Sail4th 250 schedule:
July 3: Arrival of tall ships and naval vessels, opening ceremonies, waterfront festivities, and public viewing opportunities.
July 4: The International Parade of Sail, the signature event of Sail4th 250. Dozens of tall ships will sail past the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Lower Manhattan in a breathtaking display. Independence Day celebrations and fireworks will follow later the day.
July 5-7: Public ship tours, crew interactions, cultural festivals, educational programs, military displays, and the International Naval Review featuring ships from participating nations.
July 8: Closing ceremonies and departure preparations as vessels begin their journey to Boston.

Boston, MA is the final major stop in the journey of Sail250 vessels and tall ships. Sail250 Boston is among the most awaited America250 celebrations in Massachusetts.
July 11: Grand Parade of Sail into Boston Harbor as the international fleet arrives.
July 12-15: Public ship tours, waterfront concerts, cultural performances, crew parades, educational exhibits, and family-friendly activities throughout the city.
