Do OCI Cardholders need an Exit Permit to leave India?

However, they may need an India Exit Permit in unpredictable events, like sudden OCI Card damage or loss. As per the OCI rules 2026, your OCI Card must be updated and intact while leaving India.

India’s Exit Permit: Fees and Penalties
There is no fixed fee for an exit permit India, and any service charges are usually minimal. However, if your visa has issues such as overstay, you will be required to pay a penalty before your exit permit is approved.
The penalty is based on the duration of your overstay:

- Overstay from 91 days to 2 years: $400
