The Digital India initiative has revolutionized nearly every sector of this incredible country. The aviation industry too has seen numerous innovations that have not only made airport operations seamless but also enhanced passenger experience. To make boarding quick and efficient, DigiYatra facility was launched at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, and Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore.in 2022. Since then this program has been expanded to other major Indian airports. Now the DigiYatra program is set to transform air travel at 14 more airports in India.

In a bid to revolutionize boarding and simplify airport operations, the Indian government is set to expand the DigiYatra initiative to additional airports. This move aims to offer a seamless and contactless experience for passengers, leveraging Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) through the Digi Yatra app.

DigiYatra in India

Currently operational at 13 airports across India, Digi Yatra has been instrumental in reducing processing times for passengers at various checkpoints, contributing to an overall improved travel experience.

The expansion plans are slated to be implemented by March this year. This will introduce DigiYatra at other airports in India such as Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Mopa Goa, Indore, Ranchi, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Srinagar, and Visakhapatnam. Moreover, the government envisions extending this initiative to 11 more Indian airports by 2025. This showcases a commitment to modernizing air travel infrastructure.

DigiYatra for International Tourists

A notable aspect of this expansion is the inclusion of foreign citizens. This marks a significant step in leveraging technology for a more inclusive and efficient travel experience. The government plans to introduce e-passport-based enrollment to seamlessly integrate international travelers into the DigiYatra facility. So, no matter if you are traveling from USA to India or anywhere else, once this program is implemented for international travelers, you can enjoy hassle free boarding at major airports in India.

Since its introduction in December 2022, Digi Yatra has gradually expanded to key airports, using Aadhaar-based validation and facial recognition technology. Passengers opting for DigiYatra program voluntarily register details on the DigiYatra app, facilitating a quick and secure entry process upon arrival at the airport.

As it expands to more airports in India, the DigiYatra facility is set to transform air travel experiences across the country, making journeys more efficient, secure, and passenger-friendly. You can make use of Indian Eagle deals to book cheap flights to India so you can experience the tech revolution at Indian airports.

Airports around the world upgrade their services by adding new terminals and enhancing facilities. But to improve the passenger experience, it is equally important that the airports have a good on-time performance. Airports in India have consistently been improving in all sectors and setting a benchmark in the aviation industry. Kempegowda International Airport was recently adjudged as the world’s most punctual airport by Cirium. The world-class hub has maintained its on-time performance for three consecutive months now and is ahead of major global airports.

While Bangalore Airport had an impressive on-time performance of 87.51% in July, it improved to 89.66% in August and was 88.51% last month. Kempegowda International Airport is ahead of the Salt Lake City International Airport in US that had an on-time performance of 87.04%.

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Grabs the 3rd Spot with its On-Time Performance

Another major Indian airport to feature in the list is the state-of-the-art Rajiv Gandhi International Airport that ranked third in the world’s most punctual airport list. It had an on-time performance of 86.48%. The report had tracked around 13,973 flights to and from Hyderabad, while around 18,913 flights to Bangalore and from the ‘garden city’ were taken into account.

US Airports’ On-Time Performance

Four airports in USA featured in the list of top 10 world’s most punctual airports. While Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) ranked 4th with an on-time performance of 85.89%, the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) grabbed the 7th spot with 85.10%. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is right behind on the 8th spot with an on-time performance of 83.97%. The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) was another major US airport that was ranked 10th with 83.15% flights on time.

As passengers it is important that you are not just aware of the world’s safest airlines but also the best global hubs so you can plan your travel seamlessly. If you are traveling on the USA-India route, you can travel from Atlanta to Bangalore or anywhere else and expect a hassle-free journey. And to have a seamless and affordable trip, booking Indian Eagle tickets is a smart choice.

The United States is known for having the largest aviation market worldwide. It boasts of state-of-the-art airports that are well-connected to not just domestic but international destinations as well. Recently, the prominent flight information provider, OAG, unveiled its Global Mega Hubs 2023 list, shining a spotlight on the top airports worldwide. And New York JFK Airport was ranked 2nd in this prominent list of megahubs 2023.

What is the Megahubs Index?

The Megahubs Index, an annual publication by OAG, evaluates airports around the world based on their international connectivity levels. It quantifies the effectiveness of leading international airport hubs as connecting points on both global and regional scales, using a connectivity index.

How are the Rankings Determined?

OAG constructs the Megahubs Index using its flight data platform, which encompasses the most extensive airline schedules and global flight connections database globally. This data enables the dynamic assessment of connections and the creation of unique rankings.

The rankings are determined by comparing the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights with the number of destinations accessible from the airport.

JFK Airport’s Remarkable Ascent

In this year’s Megahubs Index, New York’s JFK Airport (JFK) secures the 2nd position. The airport has made substantial improvement in the rankings, significantly advancing from 18th place in 2019. This remarkable climb is attributed, in part, to American Airlines (AA), which has expanded its international destinations by seven in 2023.

Other Notable Megahubs

Among the Top 20 Global Megahubs 2023, other significant Megahubs include Atlanta, the world’s busiest airport, occupying the 14th spot. Chicago O’Hare stands at position 10, a decline from its 3rd place ranking in 2019.

All You Need to Know About the Megahubs 2023 List

  • JFK International Airport has surged from the 18th spot in 2019 to claim the title of the world’s second-most connected airport. Chicago airport retains its status as number 1 in the US and ranks 10th globally. Atlanta airport stands at number 2 among airports in USA and 14th globally.
  • Six North American airports secure positions within the world’s Top 20 most connected, including Chicago, Atlanta, and Denver.
  • Los Angeles International Airport has made significant progress, ascending 15 spots since 2019 to rank 7 in the US.
  • Delta Air Lines and United Airlines dominate the share of flights at the top three US airports. Southwest Airlines now reigns as the dominant carrier at four of the US’s Top 25 airports.
  • Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai are the two Indian airports featured in the Top 50 Global Megahubs 2023 list. While DEL was ranked 25, BOM was placed on number 34.
  • London Heathrow Airport (LHR) has reclaimed its status as the world’s number one most internationally connected airport.

The Global Megahubs 2023 Index highlights the dynamic nature of international connectivity in the aviation industry, with New York’s JFK Airport making remarkable improvement in securing the 2nd spot globally. Indian Eagle flights offer seamless connectivity between the megahubs in the USA and India. So, if you are planning to travel soon, book your itinerary and experience the world-class services at these airports.

Air travel can be tedious, especially during international travel. Most people tend to carry a lot of luggage on long-haul flights to India. And this can result in long queues at the airport. But with the advent of technology, the screening process at airports has been improving. And the Indian aviation industry is also making significant changes to enhance passenger experiences. Soon, cutting-edge CTiX machines will further reduce the passenger security queues at major airports in India.

CTiX machines at Indian airports will likely roll out in 2023. These advanced machines will revolutionize the security screening process by eliminating the need to remove electronic items and liquids from cabin bags during X-ray screening.

A CTiX machine utilizes Computed Tomography technology to create detailed 3D models of the contents inside passengers’ cabin bags. The CTiX machines have already proven their worth in major airports around the world. Now, these will be installed at some of the busiest airports in India like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata.

The installation of CTiX machines will begin in December, and it promises to revolutionize the security screening process at Indian airports. These machines significantly expedite the process, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free experience for passengers. This will further improve the customer service at these airports.

The prospect of faster security checks comes as a breath of fresh air for passengers traveling to India with Indian Eagle cheap tickets. As the country’s airports witness a surge in travelers, ensuring safety and efficiency is of paramount importance. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) recognizes this and has initiated the ‘Aviation Security Culture Week’ at 131 airports, including major hubs like Mumbai.

Aviation Security Culture Week

The ‘Aviation Security Culture Week’ is a comprehensive effort to educate the flying public about their role in ensuring aviation security. The theme, “See it, Say it, Secure it,” resonates with passengers, encouraging them to be vigilant and proactive in cooperating with security staff. The week-long event includes information booths, kiosks, and security awareness cards, all aimed at fostering a security-conscious culture among travelers.

One of the primary objectives of the ‘Aviation Security Culture Week’ is to enlighten passengers about the dos and don’ts when it comes to carrying items on flights. A prominent challenge faced by airport authorities is the presence of prohibited items in cabin bags, leading to “rejected” bags during X-ray screening. At Mumbai airport alone, approximately 7,000 out of the 60,000 cabin bags screened daily contain prohibited items, necessitating manual checks by CISF security personnel. The revelation of such alarming numbers underscores the importance of awareness campaigns like the ‘Aviation Security Culture Week.

Posters displaying the list of prohibited items are strategically positioned at security counters to remind passengers of the regulations. Ensuring that passengers are well-informed about the permitted and restricted items in both cabin and check-in bags is a vital step towards streamlining the security screening process.

With the advent of CTiX machines and the ongoing ‘Aviation Security Culture Week,’ Indian airports are setting new standards for aviation security. By promoting a security-conscious mindset and embracing state-of-the-art technology, the aviation industry in India is taking a giant leap forward in ensuring safety and efficiency for travelers. As the government dedicates resources and efforts to enhance security measures, passengers can look forward to a more streamlined and enjoyable travel experience at the country’s airports.

The DigiYatra facility in India is expanding its reach to seven more airports, making air travel a breeze. Passengers traveling through Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Lucknow, and Cochin airports will soon be able to use this biometric-based mobile application.

Travelers can look forward to a seamless and hassle-free airport experience through the DigiYatra mobile app. It is likely that the facility at these seven airports in India will be launched within the next few months. The benefits are many, including reduced waiting times in queues, faster processing, simpler procedures, and an overall enhanced passenger journey from booking to disembarking.

From Three to Seven Airports

DigiYatra has already proved its mettle at three airports – New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi – after its launch in December 2022. Following its successful trial, the system was later introduced in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Vijayawada, and Pune airports in April this year.

The primary objective of DigiYatra is to enhance the passenger experience by eliminating manual verification of tickets and identification documents at multiple points. As a result, it has been particularly effective in decongesting departure terminal areas during peak travel seasons.

The popularity of DigiYatra facility in India has been remarkable, with over one million downloads of the mobile application so far. And one of the best things is that it has been widely adopted, especially in non-metro cities like Varanasi and Vijayawada.

A beta version of one such new service, the DigiYatra program was successfully introduced at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on 15th August this year.

And now the Ministry of Civil Aviation has rolled out DigiYatra at 3 airports in India. It is aimed to make the boarding process digital and seamless. Further improvising the security, the departure control system of the particular airline the passengers are flying with will verify their data.

Step 2: Register your details on the DigiYatra app.

Step 3: Provide the required Aadhar-based details.

Step 4: Click your selfie for the DigiYatra app.

Step 5: Scan your boarding pass to update in the app.

Step 6: Your credentials will be shared with the airport (Delhi, Bangalore or Varanasi).

Step 7: Go ahead and scan the bar coded boarding pass at the e-gate of the airport.

Step 8: Your identity and travel documents will be validated by the ‘facial recognition system’ at the e-gate.

Step 9: You will now be allowed to enter the airport via the e-gate.

Step 10: Now you can board the aircraft after going through the regular security clearance procedures.

With new travel apps such as DigiYatra, technology has been revolutionizing the tourism sector. With these innovations, you never know, you might soon be able to also see the advent of Metaverse tourism in India.

You can book cheap flight tickets from USA to India via Indian Eagle and travel to these cities at affordable prices. So, why wait? Plan your itinerary today and get ready to go through a seamless boarding process via DigiYatra.
