DigiYatra Facility Set to Transform Air Travel at 14 More Airports in India this Year

The Digital India initiative has revolutionized nearly every sector of this incredible country. The aviation industry too has seen numerous innovations that have not only made airport operations seamless but also enhanced passenger experience. To make boarding quick and efficient, DigiYatra facility was launched at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, and Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore.in 2022. Since then this program has been expanded to other major Indian airports. Now the DigiYatra program is set to transform air travel at 14 more airports in India. 

In a bid to revolutionize boarding and simplify airport operations, the Indian government is set to expand the DigiYatra initiative to additional airports. This move aims to offer a seamless and contactless experience for passengers, leveraging Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) through the Digi Yatra app.

Currently operational at 13 airports across India, Digi Yatra has been instrumental in reducing processing times for passengers at various checkpoints, contributing to an overall improved travel experience.

The expansion plans are slated to be implemented by March this year. This will introduce DigiYatra at other airports in India such as Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Mopa Goa, Indore, Ranchi, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Srinagar, and Visakhapatnam. Moreover, the government envisions extending this initiative to 11 more Indian airports by 2025. This showcases a commitment to modernizing air travel infrastructure.

DigiYatra for International Tourists 

A notable aspect of this expansion is the inclusion of foreign citizens. This marks a significant step in leveraging technology for a more inclusive and efficient travel experience. The government plans to introduce e-passport-based enrollment to seamlessly integrate international travelers into the DigiYatra facility. So, no matter if you are traveling from USA to India or anywhere else, once this program is implemented for international travelers, you can enjoy hassle free boarding at major airports in India. 

Since its introduction in December 2022, Digi Yatra has gradually expanded to key airports, using Aadhaar-based validation and facial recognition technology. Passengers opting for DigiYatra program voluntarily register details on the DigiYatra app, facilitating a quick and secure entry process upon arrival at the airport.

As it expands to more airports in India, the DigiYatra facility is set to transform air travel experiences across the country, making journeys more efficient, secure, and passenger-friendly.
