Air India is expanding its footprint, and oh well, its fleet too. After the takeover, the TATA’s have been upgrading the Air India fleet with a mix of narrowbody and widebody aircraft. The airline has placed an order of 470 jets during the 2023 Paris Air Show. In 2024, Air India placed another order of 100 Airbus aircraft. According to sources, Air India new order of widebody aircraft is likely on the horizon.

The new Air India order will most likely be a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Air India is reportedly planning to order about 50 widebody aircraft. This order will help the airline expand and enhance its long-haul flight operations. Notably, one key aspect that is stopping Air India from expanding its international network, particularly nonstop flights to USA, is the lack of enough widebody aircraft. As the new jets will join the Air India fleet, the airline will formulate its expansion plans.

Which aircraft will the Air India new order include?

According to industry experts, the airline may order Boeing 777x and Airbus A350 aircraft in its new order. Notably, both aircraft provide fuel efficiency, advanced technology and enhanced passenger comfort. Moreover, some Air India Boeing 777x aircraft along with Air India B787s are already operational. Ordering more, Air India Airbus A350 aircraft is also a key option as it’s already a passenger-favorite.

These will particularly be widebody jets. Travel Diary aviation news will give you an update as soon as there’s an official statement from the airline.

The Paris Air Show 2025 is expected to witness major aircraft orders from leading airlines. Notably, Airbus and Boeing are likely to secure large deals as airlines look forward to expanding their fleets with fuel-efficient models. The Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787 Dreamliner could also see strong demand. Additionally, airlines aiming to add sustainable aircraft to their fleets might announce agreements for next-generation aircraft. Furthermore, the Paris Air Show remains a significant event where industry trends, technological advancements and large-scale aircraft orders take center stage.

The Air India new order of 50 widebody aircraft signals the airline’s commitment to growth. It reflects Air India’s vision for modernization and global expansion. If this aircraft order is finalized, it may mark a significant milestone in India’s aviation sector.

Direct Booking Bonus has also been introduced that will let members earn additional bonus points for booking flights directly through Air India’s website or app. Moreover, the program also offers Expanded Point Collection. This enables members to earn points through various non-airline partners, including hotels, car rentals, and lifestyle experiences. These new features aim to offer members with more flexibility and opportunities to maximize their rewards.
