United Airlines has announced plans to introduce nonstop flights from ORD to DEL, starting from March 29, 2025. This is not the first time the airline has included the Chicago-Delhi route in its schedule. In December 2020, United Airlines operated its inaugural direct flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. However, due to the subsequent rise of cases in India during the COVID-19 pandemic, United temporarily suspended ORD-DEL flights from May 31, 2021.

Due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which closed Russian airspace in 2022, United Airlines discontinued two direct routes from San Francisco (SFO) to Delhi and Newark (EWR) to Mumbai. Although these flights have not resumed, the airline continued operations between ORD-DEL and EWR-DEL routes. But the extended Russia-Ukraine conflict led United Airlines to announce the discontinuation of Chicago-Delhi flight operations. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) announced new rules that airlines are now required to pay automatic refunds to tourists if flights are cancelled or significantly changed.
