I called Indian Eagle’s customer support after the e-tickets were issued with travel confirmation. They linked my husband’s PNR and my PNR in the airline’s system for both onward and return flights. I did it earlier too.
Anyway, two or more travelers in the same reservation don’t get to sit together unless they reserve their seats in advance for a fee or they are lucky enough to get seats in the same row during airport check-in. So, there is no harm in booking separate flight tickets instead of two or more tickets in one PNR.
