My trick to save $100 on US–India Flight Tickets
This US Independence Day, my air-ticketing partner – Indian Eagle – offered a limited-time discount coupon worth $25. I seized this opportunity to maximize savings on international travel. Unlike others, I booked four flight tickets separately for my spouse and me; two for our onward travel from Dallas to Mumbai and two for our return journey. It got me a $25 discount on each ticket. Precisely, four tickets totaled to a significant $100 saving.
However, there is a catch. Since the Indian Eagle coupon applies to select itineraries, you need to shortlist a few deals online that you can grab the discount on. You can seek help of a fare economist by calling the customer support helpline. But remember the offer is valid for online bookings; offline bookings are usually not eligible for occasional discounts.
You may think why separate bookings when we will be flying together. The secret that not many travelers know is – you can get individual bookings linked in the airline’s system. I called Indian Eagle’s customer support after the e-tickets were issued with travel confirmation. They linked my husband’s PNR and my PNR in the airline’s system for both onward and return flights. I did it earlier too.
Anyway, two or more travelers in the same reservation don’t get to sit together unless they reserve their seats in advance for a fee or they are lucky enough to get seats in the same row during airport check-in. So, there is no harm in booking separate flight tickets instead of two or more tickets in one PNR.
