Are you about to take your first long-haul flight? Is the very thought of it making you stressed? If yes then worry not; use these tips for long-haul flight journeys to make things easier for you.

Take greater care when selecting your outfit for the flight.

What you wear is likely to define your comfort on long-haul flights. Tight-fitting clothing and even jeans can feel overbearing after you have been on a flight for a few hours (even if you are OK with them). Loose-fitting clothing is ideal for long journeys. Track pants, comfy t-shirts, athleisure, skirts, elastic pants etc. are some good clothing options for long flights.

Another important aspect is to dress in multiple layers. In-flight temperature can be very cold but also warm at times. So, you may need to add or remove layers of clothing for your comfort. A light jacket over your tee and pants will do the job most times. If not, you can add a warmer coat for additional comfort. If gets warmer or colder again, you can do the needful by adding or removing layers.

Always carry socks with you. Even if you are wearing slip-ons or flip-flops; wearing socks can offer warmth and comfort especially when you would like to get some sleep during long-haul flight journeys.

Hydrate sufficiently and consume more water than you would normally do.

Optimal hydration is not only essential on long flights but will keep you comfortable in so many ways. Drink more water than your usual intake. Juices and other non-alcoholic drinks (dairy and non-dairy) also count as fluid intake. So, continue to switch between plain water and other non-alcoholic beverages.

Keep sipping water at regular intervals. If your skin or lips feels drier than usual; the in-flight air could be affecting you. Consider it as a cue to intake more fluids.

Pack snacks and food.

‘Less is more’ doesn’t apply to food when you are on a long-haul flight journey. You may not like everything that is served on the plane. You may feel hungrier than usual or may want something more filling or appetizing. Perhaps you have an intolerance for certain foods or are allergic to some ingredients. So, it is always better to pack some snacks with you to tide you over during your trip.

Dried fruits, chocolates, energy bars etc. are good to carry on long journeys. You can also pack fruits like apples and pear and consume them first and save the dried stuff for later.

Define your own long-haul flight essentials.

Instead of relying on lists of essentials taken from other resources, make your own. What is right for another passenger/person may not be right for you. Of course; feel free to refer to other lists for inspiration and ideas. But compile names of items you think you will need during the long hours you will spend on the flight.

If you have difficulty sleeping due to light and sounds, carry eye masks and ear plugs. If your skin is sensitive or dry, carry moisturizer with you. A book, socks, skin hydration, candies, dried snacks, medication, your own entertainment playlist, notebooks etc. are some essential items for long-haul flights.
