Cochin International Airport, also known as Nedumbassery Airport, is a main gateway to Kerala, India. It is located about 25 km northeast of Kochi’s busy city center. It is well known not only for its modern amenities but also for being the first airport in India to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Due to its innovative approach, Cochin International Airport has grown to be Kerala’s busiest airport and an important hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport, which has three main passenger terminals, is suitably designed to accommodate the increasing number of passengers that arrive at the gates each year.

The Gateway to International Flights

Kerala is connected to the rest of the world by Cochin International Airport, which acts as a key hub for international flights. The airport serves more than 25 airlines, offering flights to over 22 domestic and 31 international locations. The airport handled over 67,469 aircraft movements in the financial year 2023–2024 alone, showing its significance as an important hub in India’s aviation network. The airport’s amenities are designed to ensure a smooth travel experience regardless of where you are arriving from or where you are departing.

Cochin International Airport Terminal 1: The Domestic Hub

Terminal 1 of Cochin International Airport has a long history, having been the airport’s international terminal at first. But when the new international terminal opened, Terminal 1 was converted and given a major makeover to accommodate domestic flights. On December 12, 2018, the renovated terminal reopened to passengers, with a capacity of 4,000 people per hour, 5 times that of its previous capacity. This terminal, which has a built-up size of 55,742 square meters, has 56 check-in counters, 7 aerobridges, and a conveyor belt system that can handle baggage from 12 flights simultaneously.

There are several facilities available to passengers going through Terminal 1, such as a shopping area, an executive lounge, a food court, and an art area. Cochin International Airport’s Terminal 1 provides a modern, effective, and cozy experience for travelers traveling within India.

Cochin International Airport Terminal 2: The Executive Terminal

The terminal 2 at Cochin International Airport is smaller compared to the other but is a more specialized terminal designed to handle executive and charter flights. Terminal 2 covers an area of 10,000 sqm and can handle up to 400 passengers at peak hours. There are 26 check-in counters in the terminal, including 4 self-check-in kiosks and 6 premium counters. There is a food court, family lounge, premium lounge for business class travelers, and a common waiting room available in the departure hall. In addition, Terminal 2 has four remote gates for domestic travelers and a restaurant in the entry lobby.

Despite being smaller than the other terminals, Terminal 2 provides a more premium experience for passengers who want a more individualized and private experience.

Cochin International Airport Terminal 3: The International Powerhouse

Terminal 3, which is entirely dedicated to managing international flights of Cochin International Airport COK. Terminal 3, which opened in March 2017, is a remarkable fusion of modern amenities and classic Keralan architecture. The famous Thrissur Pooram festival is the theme of architecture of the terminal, which welcomes visitors at the departure facilities area with 15 life-size fiber elephants dressed in traditional garb.

The 3rd largest airport terminal in India is Cochin International Airport Terminal 3, which covers an area of more than 150,000 square meters. There are four floors in the terminal, each with different uses. Arrivals are handled on the ground floor and the second floor, which have several moving walkways to facilitate passenger mobility, 10 e-T-Visa counters, 5 health check counters, and 30 immigration counters. The arrivals area at Cochin International Airport Terminal 3 features 10 customs counters, duty-free stores, and a large baggage claim area.

The third level is dedicated to departures, providing a vast check-in area with 84 counters, 40 emigration counters, and an 800-square-meter departure duty-free shop. The food court, restaurant, three airline executive lounges, smoking lounge, and resting room for travelers to unwind before their flights are all located in the security hold area, which is located on the fourth level.

Terminal 3 also boasts a solar carport facility that generates 2.7 MW of power and provides parking for 1,400 cars. Together with the solar carport at Terminal 1, Cochin International Airport has the largest solar carport in the world, generating a total of 5.1 MW of power and offering parking for 2,800 cars. This commitment to sustainability further enhances the airport’s reputation as a forward-thinking and eco-friendly travel hub.

Cochin International Airport stands as a testament to India’s advancements in aviation infrastructure, blending traditional aesthetics with modern conveniences. Bonalu is the most vibrant and spiritual festival in South India. It is observed with unwavering faith in Telangana, particularly in areas such as Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Malkajgiri. Goddess Mahakali is worshipped in Bonalu for safeguarding human beings against diseases and calamities.

If you’re a culture travel enthusiast, this is the best time to visit South India. You can plan your trip, book cheap flights to India with Indian Eagle, and join this month-long Telangana Bonalu Festival 2025 celebration of happiness, food, music, and devotion.

What is Bonalu?

Bonalu is an old Hindu festival celebrated in the month of Ashada from July to August. It’s a thanksgiving festival to Goddess Mahakali for protecting people from epidemics, especially after a plague outbreak over a century ago. During this festival women carry nicely decorated earthen vessels with rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves called Bonam to be presented as an offering to the goddess. The 22-day-long festival is marked by processions, folk dance, temple ceremonies, and public feasts.

Unique Grace of Bonalu in Telangana

What sets Telangana’s Bonalu celebrations apart is the way the festival is celebrated in various parts of the city across weekends. Each location from the Golconda Fort to the Ujjaini Mahakali Temple at Secunderabad and Lal Darwaza in Old City has its own version of Bonalu with distinctive rituals, folk dance, and processions. This celebration provides travelers with the opportunity to observe a diverse yet united identity while worshiping the same deity.

The spirit of devotion is felt everywhere as there are streets filled with the rhythm of drums, decorated pots, colorful sarees, and community feasts. Each celebration has its local traditions, but together they reflect Hyderabad’s multicultural and harmonious spirit.  It’s not a festival, it’s an experience that unites the city in beauty and splendor.

Where is Bonalu Celebrated?

The grand celebrations take place on Sundays  at the following locations:

  • First Sunday: Golconda Fort, Hyderabad
  • Second Sunday: Ujjaini Mahakali Temple, Secunderabad
  • Third Sunday: Lal Darwaza and Akkanna Madanna Temples, Hyderabad

The venue is changed every week so that the visitor gets to see different traditions.

How is Bonalu Celebrated?

Bonalu is celebrated with utmost faith, color, and enthusiasm in Telangana, in Hyderabad and Secunderabad areas. The women wear traditional sarees and hold decorated pots containing cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves, also called “Bonam” on their heads as an offering to Goddess Mahakali. The pots are well adorned with turmeric, kumkum, and flowers. The roads resonate with drums, religious songs, and traditional folk dances such as Potharaju, where men dress in traditional attire and perform vigorous dances to guard the procession.

Flowers and colorful rangolis adorn houses and temples, and rituals are conducted to invoke blessings and protection. Every Sunday of the festival is observed with huge processions and pilgrimages to temples, and hence Bonalu is a very religious and culturally vibrant experience for anyone who gets drawn into it.

The entire atmosphere is festive, inviting, and spiritually enriching and therefore one of the best times to discover South India. Experience the essence of Bonalu. If you are planning to book SFO to Hyderabad flights, check out Indian Eagle deals.  So that you can enjoy a budget-friendly and memorable travel experience. Terminal 1

Terminal 1 (T1) of Mumbai Airport, also referred to as Santacruz Airport, serves low-cost domestic flights. It has 11 passenger boarding bridges and was initially divided into three sub terminals: 1A, 1B, and 1C. Before it closed in 2016, Terminal 1A, which had opened in 1992, had been home to Air India, Kingfisher, and GoAir. Since Terminal 1A’s operations halted, Terminal 1B now referred to as Terminal 1 has been handling all domestic flights. Terminal 1C, which opened in 2010, served as a boarding-only facility that connected 1A and 1B.

Terminal 2

At Mumbai Airport International Terminal 2 (T2) is an X-shaped building that accommodates both domestic and international travel. T2 has 192 check-in desks, 60 immigration counters for departures, 14 baggage carousels, and 76 immigration counters for arrivals. It spans 450,000 square meters over four levels. It has modern amenities such as layover accommodations, shops, lounges, and medical facilities. T2, which was built by Larsen & Toubro, is connected to the Western Express Highway and has easy access by the Sahar Elevated Access Road, which also ensures smooth travel. For the convenience of passengers, the terminal also has 42 travelators, 75 elevators, and 48 escalators.

Mumbai Airport Transit Between Terminals

T1 and T2 are not connected by a passenger transit system. So, the Mumbai Airport Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 transfer time takes around 25-30 minutes based on traffic. Commuting from both terminals requires taxis, or other Uber services, which are readily available at your disposal. The distance between Mumbai domestic and international airports is hardly three miles, but Mumbai traffic woes would significantly increase the travel time. To ensure a stress-free connection, allocate a minimum of three to four hours when transferring between terminals at Mumbai Airport.

Booking flights ahead of time isn’t a new idea; it’s a travel basics. It lets you plan your trip without pressure and helps lock in the stay you want, exactly where and when you want it. You get the freedom to explore options at your own pace and often at a better price too. It’s not simple to find great offers at the last minute. Although this choice has advantages, you still run the risk of not being able to make the desired booking or of being unable to travel on the planned date.

Search flights and plan your travel in advance to avoid making compromises when it comes to your vacation. This will also let you leave on the dates of your choice while enjoying a wide selection of destinations and lodging.

Benefits of Early Booking:

You’ll Save a Lot through Cheap Deals

Since early booking provides you time to track the best deals, you can benefit from cheap travel packages. It may also encourage you to start planning your trip earlier. Cheap flights will also lead to an increase in air travel.

You Can Select Your Choice of Destination

Peak season travel is popular, which means hotels and resorts fill up fast. With limited availability, you might end up changing your destination not by choice but by necessity. Finding your preferred place to stay becomes harder, and flexibility turns into a must. If you wish to get the same accommodation as last summer then you must opt for an early booking. The earlier you book, the better your chances of getting the accommodation you want. Planning in advance also gives you time to explore different stays and pick one that truly fits your needs. Instead of settling, you get to choose with confidence.

You Can Make Better Plans Ahead of Your Trip

Book your flights early and you can skip the stress of uncertainty. No more guessing where you’ll go or when you’ll leave. Once your reservation is locked in, the pressure is off. The summer season comes up with plenty of hues and festivities in India, a country known for its colorful diversity and rich cultural heritage. Every event celebrated during this season not only symbolizes deeply rooted cultural values but also fosters happiness and community among people. The summer season festivals in India are not just occasions for celebration but are deeply connected with the socio-cultural impact of the region.

These celebrations spread a new wave of happiness and spirituality throughout the nation when the sun shines brightly. This gives travelers a perfect reason to book flights to India and explore the depths of its culture.

Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur Pooram, one of the major temple festivals, is celebrated in the Keralan town of Thrissur.  It is among the top Indian festivals and celebrated with different names in every region of the country. The celebration includes drum performances, a breathtaking fireworks display, and an amazing procession of elephants dressed out in costumes. It’s a global attraction that attracts tourists and devotees both with its dazzling visual and musical performance.

Buddha Purnima

In India, Buddha Purnima, or Vesak, takes place on a large scale, particularly in areas like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra which have a large Buddhist population. It celebrates Lord Buddha’s birth, awakening, and passing. Prayer gatherings, Buddhist life teachings, religious talks, and a range of vegetarian treats are all part of this celebration.

Rath Yatra

One of India’s oldest and most beautifully celebrated events is the Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, which takes place in Puri, Odisha. This is one of the must-witness summer season festivals in India. Thousands of worshippers pull huge chariots filled with the idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and his sister Subhadra throughout the festival. The celebration is a remarkable example of unity among communities and devotion.

Teej

In Rajasthan and other northern regions of India, Teej is usually performed. There is swinging, folk singing, and fasting during this monsoon celebration. Women pray for marriage and their spouses’ well-being while dressing in green, singing, and dancing in traditional ways.

Kerala’s Boat Races

The backwaters of Kerala come alive during the monsoon season, which normally begins in June and lasts until August. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race, which takes place on the 2nd Saturday in August, is the most popular of these. A mesmerizing sight is created when long snake boats with up to 100 sailors operating them slice through the water in perfect time to the beat of drums. This race is a celebration of Kerala’s maritime history as well as local pride.

Mango Festival

If you’re all about mangoes, you have to check out the Mango Festival in Delhi! Biryani in India? Oh, it’s next level. Whether it’s the smoky dum biryani from Hyderabad or the potato-packed one in Kolkata, each city’s got its own spin on this iconic dish. Looking to find the best biryanis? Ready to dive into the famous biryanis of India? How about we check out what deliciousness is brewing all over the country?

Hyderabadi Biryani

Telangana’s capital dazzles with its rich, flavorful cuisine. From non-veg dishes to South Indian veg specialties, the city leaves your palate craving for more. Hyderabadi biryani is popular worldwide and has two types; ‘kachi yakhni ki biryani’ and ‘pakki yakhni ki biryani’. While the ‘kachi’ is made using marinated raw meat that is added as a layer over the basmati rice and infused with fried onions, saffron and herbs, the ‘pakki’ is made by cooking the rice and meat in different pots and then adding it as layers just before giving dum to the biryani.

Fly to Hyderabad with cheap flights from Indian Eagle and explore the culinary treasure of Hyderabadi biryani at renowned hotspots such as Paradise Hotel, Shadab Hotel, and Rumaan Hotel. A delicious journey awaits!

Awadhi Biryani

With a history as rich as its food scene, Lucknow, the city of Nawabs, is home to everything from tunday kebabs to the delicately spiced Awadhi biryani, one of the famous biryanis of India, making it a paradise for food lovers. The chicken is marinated separately, then combined with the cooked rice. It is said that doing so enhances the biryani’s taste and makes it even more delicious.

Kolkata Biryani

Kolkata is known for its unique yet delicious cuisine. The dishes here have a bit of sweetness and so does the biryani. Even the spices used in the preparation of biryani are milder when compared with the variants in other cities. Fried potato added along with meat is a unique and integral part of the biryani here and gives it an amazing flavor.

You can book flights to Kolkata through Indian Eagle and taste this scrumptious delicacy yourself.

Bombay Biryani

Apart from vada pav and other street food items, Mumbai is also famous for its ‘Bombay biryani’. It is prepared using chicken/mutton/vegetables, spicy fried potatoes and kewra water, which enhances the taste of this dish with its floral aroma. Dried plums are also added to it along with spices, which gives it a tangy and sweet flavor.

Fly from Dallas to Mumbai with Indian Eagle and taste this delicacy along with other popular food items.

Malabar Biryani

The biryani at Kerala’s Thalassery is also a must-try. Also known as ‘Malabar biryani’, it is sweet, spicy and has a distinct flavor of south Indian ingredients such as coconut, curry leaves etc. It is made using the Jeerakasala or Kaima rice instead of basmati rice. Fennel seeds, meat, fried onions, sauteed cashews, raisins etc, are also added to make this dish. The rice is cooked separately and is only mixed with the meat at the time of serving.

Dindigul Biryani:

Dindigul Biryani from Tamil Nadu is a total game changer if you’re tired of the heavy, greasy biryanis. As one of the famous biryanis of India, Dindigul Biryani uses seeraga samba rice instead of basmati, making it much lighter. With the tangy twist from the yogurt-marinated meat, it sets itself apart from the rest. It’s got the spice, but it’s not greasy, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to try something new.

Biryani comes in many styles across India, but no matter where you have it, it’s a treat for the taste buds. Tried any of the famous biryanis of India from the cities listed above? Comment below and share your thoughts with us!

India is a magical experience! What you see here assumes a whole new meaning when you understand the deeper themes ingrained within various cultural, religious and traditional practices. In this connection, colors serve as an expression of faith and belief, and color symbolism is so typical of India.

“I had been seeing the world in black & white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant technicolour,” said Keith Bellows, who was editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler for 17 years.

Colorful experiences of India are not just limited to the beautiful colors of nature. The country’s love for colors is evident in its festivals and celebrations, traditional clothing, art and architecture – let’s say every aspect of life. Colors are capable of evoking strong emotions, so develop an emotional connection with this spiritual nation by experiencing the colors of India.

Celebrate Holi in India

Holi celebrations are probably the first glimpses your mind conjured up when we said colors of India, and why not? After all, it’s the Festival of Colors renowned all over the world! The exuberant traditions of this Indian festival bring together people of all ages to indulge in the fun of drenching each other in a riot of colors. Singing and dancing around Holika Dahan (bonfire) as a way of celebrating the victory of good over evil precedes this most colorful festival. Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi, Udaipur, Jaipur, Shantiniketan, Hampi, and Delhi are the best places to fully enjoy this colorful experience of India.

Trek to Valley of Flowers

A famous poet described colors as ‘the smiles of nature’, and you’ll get to witness her winsome smile at this colorful place in India. With mighty Himalayan ranges forming the background, the ethereal landscape of Valley of Flowers crisscrossed by tranquil streams leaves you spellbound! The sights of endemic alpine flowers such as orchids, poppies, lilies, marigold, petunia, daisies, geranium, primula and anemones among others offer you the most blissful, soothing and colorful experience.

Experience Gujarat’s Rann Utsav

This annual festival hosted in the ecologically and ethnically diverse Kutch district displays the natural and cultural heritage of Gujarat in its colorful best. The carnivalesque atmosphere breathes life into surreally beautiful Kutch villages and the wide array of cultural programs, traditional handicraft melas, and dreamy full-moon nights lend their share of color and vibrancy to the Rann Utsav. This 3-month-long celebration happens from December to February every year. You shouldn’t miss out on this exquisitely colorful experience of India at any rate.

Shop for bangles at Laad Bazaar in Hyderabad

Bangles are an intrinsic part of Indian culture; they mean more than accessories for Indian women. In this culturally-rich country where different colored bangles stand for different themes, bangle shopping is indeed special and so are the choodi bazaars.

Laad or Choodi Bazar in Hyderabad, a historic bangle market, is particularly famous for its lac and glass bangles of all colors and designs. This market is colorful, chaotic, musical, and noisy all at the same time. Even if you don’t intend to buy, just take a walk down the old Laad Bazaar lanes beholding the spectacle of shimmering bangles – it is an arresting sight that depicts the varied colors of India.
