Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Travel Class has three distinct fare types: Light, Classic, and Delight, like Air India fare categories. The fare categories cater to different groups of travelers, depending on budget, baggage, comfort, flexibility, seat selection, and other perks. What looks the most affordable fare on the surface may not be economical considering the absence of certain benefits and perks available in other Economy fare categories. Without a guide to Virgin Atlantic’s Economy fare types and their features, you are likely to end up paying the fare that may not suit your budget and travel needs.

Virgin Atlantic Economy fare types, Virgin Atlantic economy seats, cheapest Virgin Atlantic fares

Virgin Atlantic Economy Light fares

Among Virgin Atlantic’s fare categories, Economy Light is the lowest segment and suitable for budget economy travelers. It is designed for those who look for the cheapest flight tickets and travel light (only with cabin bags). This fair is largely ideal for solo travelers.

Key features and restrictions:

  • Standard economy seat with around 31-inch pitch
  • Seat assigned at check-in, advance selection available for a fee
  • Free cabin baggage allowance (one carry-on)
  • No checked baggage allowance
  • Same onboard meals, drinks, and entertainment as other fares
  • Lowest fare but more restrictive and less flexible
  • Travel date change and cancellation fees apply

Virgin Atlantic Economy Classic fares

Economy Classic is cheaper than Delight fares and less restrictive than Economy Light. Travelers flying with one checked bag seek this standard fare type for Virgin Atlantic tickets from USA to India.

Key features and rules:

  • Standard seat with around 31-inch pitch
  • *One free checked bag (23 kg)
  • Free cabin baggage
  • Free seat selection
  • Upgradable using loyalty points
  • Balanced pricing with better inclusions

Who should book Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Classic fare deals? This fare category is suitable for senior citizens and family travelers flying at least one piece of checked baggage. Interestingly, most of Virgin Atlantic itineraries, USA/Canada to India, with Economy Classic fares allow two checked bags for free.

Virgin Atlantic Economy Delight fares

Economy Delight is a premium fare segment for economy class passengers. Suitable for travelers who prefer better seat selection and extra legroom for long-haul travel without paying Premium Economy fares, the Economy Delight packs in the following features and perks:

  • Extra legroom seats with up to 34-inch pitch
  • Two checked bags (23 kg) for free
  • Free cabin baggage
  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Better seat selection options
  • Elevated comfort for long-haul journeys
  • Free one-time date change (with possible fare difference)

Who should choose Indian Eagle deals for Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Delight fares? This is ideal for long-haul economy flights from New York to Bengaluru, Toronto to New Delhi, Atlanta to Mumbai, and likes where extra legroom makes a noticeable difference.

Virgin Atlantic fares: Economy Light vs Economy Classic vs Economy Delight

Economy Light is the cheapest fare segment devoid of free checked bag allowance, free seat selection, and flexibility. It is neither refundable nor upgradable to a premium class. On the other hand, Virgin Atlantic offers Economy Classic and Economy Delight fares loaded with such perks as free seat selection, one checked bag free, and free one-time change of travel dates. Economy Delight is an upper economy fare type that packs in value-added services like priority check-in and boarding with the possibility to upgrade to a premium class redeeming Virgin points.

Most affordable Virgin Atlantic fares for you

At the first glance, Economy Light seems to be the most affordable Economy fare for Virgin Atlantic flights. On the contrary, it is not, if you travel long-haul, from USA to India, with at least one checked bag. Virgin Atlantic charges additional $150 for allowing you to check in one piece of checked baggage. Rather, it is wise to choose Economy Classic over Economy Delight. Economy Classic fare + one/two free checked bag + free date change is far better than Economy Light + $150 for one checked bag.

Economy Delight costs more than Economy Classic but offers added comfort. Compare Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Delight fare and Premium Economy fare. If both are more or less the same, go for Premium Economy. If the Premium Economy fare is quite higher for your itinerary and travel dates, stick to Economy Delight for affordable ticket prices, extra legroom, priority services, free seat selection, and free date change (with possible fare difference).

Emirates Airlines announced to reduce the number of flights to USA because the rigid security restrictions, including the recent ban on electronic devices in the cabin of US-bound flights, by the US government have caused a decline in the market of Emirates flights via the Middle East. It’s likely to benefit Jet Airways’ new codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways for improving the US-India air travel via London Heathrow.

India’s Jet Airways has inked a codeshare deal with the UK’s Virgin Atlantic Airways to offer an alternate route to those traveling on US-India flights via the Middle East cities. The adverse impact of the US government’s security restraints on air travel via the Gulf has piqued travelers’ interest in booking itineraries for US to India flights routing through Europe.

Now onwards, Jet Airways’ US-bound passengers from India can board Virgin Atlantic flights at London Heathrow for nine US cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Miami, Newark, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and Washington Dulles. Jet Airways frequently operates flights to London Heathrow from Delhi and Mumbai.

India-bound travelers from the above-mentioned nine US cities can conveniently connect onto Jet Airways flights at London Heathrow. Those flying to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Goa, Amritsar, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Pune, Vadodara, Coimbatore, Kozhikode, Indore, Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram from USA, can board Delta Airlines flights at the airline’s US hubs including Atlanta, Seattle, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and New York airports. Delta Airlines flights connect onto India-bound Jet Airways flights at London Heathrow.

Those booking Jet Airways flights in codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic should select itineraries with sufficient connection time, at least, for two hours. It’s because Jet Airways operates from Terminal 4 which is on the other side of the airport, while Virgin Atlantic uses Terminal 3 at London Heathrow. Though airlines offer transfers between the two terminals, itineraries with connection time as long as 2 hours or more are recommended.

Indian Eagle, a leading US-based, trusted travel booking organization, takes special care of it while booking connecting flights between USA and India.

Emirates Airlines is about to cut the weekly number of services to five of the 12 US destinations in its network. Emirates’ service to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale will be limited to weekly five flights from a daily flight. Emirates flights to Los Angeles, Seattle and Boston will be reduced from twice to once a day.

Jet Airways operates US to India flights also via Paris and Amsterdam in codeshare partnership with Air France and KLM Airlines respectively. Grab Jet Airways discount fares and book Jet Airways cheap flights for US-India travel at Indian Eagle.
