United Airlines is likely to resume its most in-demand nonstop flights to India. The airline has scrapped direct operations to/from India due to the COVID-19 pandemic and airspace closure due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. And now with things falling into place, United Airlines nonstop flights from Chicago to Delhi are likely to be operational from 2025.

This will offer passengers traveling from Chicago ORD to DEL a second nonstop connection apart from Air India’s direct flights on this route. With this, the airline is committed to offer passengers uninterrupted flights for an enhanced travel experience.

United Airlines Nonstop Flights from Chicago to Delhi

United Airlines has announced plans to introduce nonstop flights from ORD to DEL, starting from March 29, 2025. This is not the first time the airline has included the Chicago-Delhi route in its schedule. In December 2020, United Airlines operated its inaugural direct flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. However, due to the subsequent rise of cases in India during the COVID-19 pandemic, United temporarily suspended ORD-DEL flights from May 31, 2021.

Due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which closed Russian airspace in 2022, United Airlines discontinued two direct routes from San Francisco (SFO) to Delhi and Newark (EWR) to Mumbai. Although these flights have not resumed, the airline continued operations between ORD-DEL and EWR-DEL routes. Passengers flying to/from these cities were able to book Indian Eagle tickets for an affordable trip. But the extended Russia-Ukraine conflict led United Airlines to announce the discontinuation of Chicago-Delhi flight operations. Now after a brief break, the airline is set to resume flights on this route in 2025.

Which aircraft will United Airlines use on the Chicago-Delhi route?

The iconic Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from the United Airlines fleet will likely operate direct flights from Chicago ORD to Delhi. This will offer United Airlines passengers a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

The United Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft can accommodate around 257 passengers across three classes. United Polaris business class offers 48 seats with sleeping space and Premium Plus includes 21 seats with extra recline. The United economy cabin features 39 economy-plus seats and 149 standard seats.

The announcement of United Airlines nonstop flights from Chicago to New Delhi is welcoming news for the Indian diaspora in the USA. The airline aims to provide travelers with enhanced connectivity and convenience between Chicago and Delhi.

United Is Rolling Out Larger Overhead Bins on Select Aircraft

United Airlines is taking several initiatives to enhance passenger experience. The airline had recently announced a mileage sharing feature. This enables frequent flyers to combine their miles with up to four others in a joint account. United also introduced a touchless ID program at Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, enabling passengers to bypass the TSA PreCheck line. Now in a move to further enhance United Airlines inflight services, the airline is planning to offer larger overhead bins on select aircraft.

United Airlines is rolling out bigger overhead bins on select planes in an effort to simplify the boarding process and improve the inflight experience. The airline understands how frustrating it can be for United Airlines passengers to not have enough space in the overhead bin. With the introduction of bigger overhead bins, United aims to reduce the number of bags that have to go through gate-checking.

Upgrading Select Aircraft in the United Airlines Fleet

This United Airlines inflight upgrade is focused on select Embraer E175 jets. These regional aircraft are mainly used for short-haul domestic connections. Currently over 200 United Airlines Embraer E175 regional aircraft are operational. The airline now plans to retrofit 50 aircraft operated by United’s SkyWest subsidiary with the new overhead bins by 2024-end.

The E175 aircraft’s upgraded overhead bins provide an 80% increase in space. The airline estimates that nearly 30 additional carry-on bags can be accommodated in these bins. The goal of this expansion is to better organize passengers’ belongings. Although there’s no update if these will be available on international flights, passengers having connecting flights from Newark or other United hubs to regional cities can benefit from the additional space.

Continued Commitment to Passenger Comfort

The introduction of larger overhead bins will likely benefit around one million passengers annually by minimizing the need for gate-checking bags. United remains committed to creating a seamless travel experience for passengers across both domestic and international flights. After the successful experiment on regional flights, the airline will likely annonce introduction of the larger overhead bins on other aircraft in the United Airlines fleet in the coming months.

In addition to its fleet of E175 aircraft, United Airlines has equipped more than 200 mainline aircraft with carry-on bins that are large enough to hold all of a passenger’s carry-on luggage.

United Airlines is also in the process of refurbishing all of its domestic narrowbody aircraft to ensure uniformity and comfort across all of its aircraft.

United Airlines has recently included advanced Airbus A321neo aircraft to its fleet, which will let it further enhance connectivity. The inclusion of the jets to the United fleet is not only a significant step towards its sustainable plans but also towards enhancing the passenger experience. United AIrlines A321neo aircraft on select routes will feature a Grab-N-Go snack station.

In-Flight Treats at United Airlines Grab-N-Go Snack Station

United Airlines is taking the in-flight experience to another level by introducing a ‘Grab-N-Go’ snack station on select flights. This complimentary snack service offers traditional treats and bottled water. The only catch to this service is that these snacks are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The first Grab-N–Go snack station was available on a recent flight from Houston to Chicago, signaling a positive shift in passenger convenience. Unlike the existing service, passengers won’t need to wait for a flight attendant to bring snacks or inquire about beverage preferences.

According to sources, the snack selection will vary based on the flight’s duration. Initially, this service will be exclusive to United Airlines A321neo aircraft and will be offered on flights covering a distance of 801 miles or more.

The ‘Grab-N-Go’ station is part of a broader series of enhancements implemented by United Airlines. Earlier this year, the airline experimented with a revised boarding process, prioritizing seating for the window seats first, followed by middle seats, and then aisle seats.

United Airlines In-Flight Entertainment

United has ambitious plans to upgrade its entertainment systems on select planes by 2025. This will promise a more enjoyable and engaging journey for passengers. These initiatives highlight the airline’s commitment to improving various aspects of the travel experience, be it boarding procedures or in-flight amenities.

As the airline continues to refine its services, passengers can look forward to more seamless and enjoyable journeys through United flights. And the ‘Grab-N-Go’ snack station is definitely a new addition to the airline’s evolving approach to customer satisfaction.
