Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in India and saw a passenger traffic of approximately 5,94,90,074 in 2022. It was also the 9th busiest airport in the world last year. The airport is expected to handle almost 70 million passengers by 2024. To meet the growing demand of travelers and in order to further enhance Delhi Airport operations, camera-based solutions and AI-powered predictive analytics will soon be available.

With three terminals, the Indira Gandhi International Airport handles nearly 1,300 to 1,500 flights per day. Due to weather delays, the Delhi airport operations were significantly affected in winters last year. And to avoid a similar situation, Delhi Airport will be utilizing the system of Airports Operations Centre (APOC). This utilized artificial intelligence based predictive analytics and is already operational at some airports in Europe.

How will AI-powered predictive analytics and camera-based solutions help in enhancing operations at Delhi Airport?

The systems will likely predict the passenger footfall the airport might expect at a particular time based on previous data. This will help the authorities in managing the travelers and avoiding congestion. A similar camera-based solution from Xovis (a Swiss manufacturer) is already being used at Delhi Airport Terminal 3. This system gives a predictive number regarding the waiting time for different queues. This not only makes Delhi airport operations seamless but will also avoid any congestion. No matter if passengers are traveling through flights to Delhi or outside the city, such AI-powered predictive analytic tools ensure a hassle-free journey. The airport also plans to use this at Delhi Airport Terminal 1 after its expansion is completed by end of February next year.

Apart from this, Indira Gandhi International Airport is planning to utilize many other camera-based solutions that will further ease its operations. These will not just help in managing the crowd but can also help in proper management of trollies, tracking of vehicles etc.

Delhi Airport operations are expected to become more seamless with the addition of AI-powered predictive analytics and camera-based solutions. If you are planning a trip to India, you can book flights using Indian Eagle deals and save more. Start your journey from Delhi as it is the gateway to discovering incredible India. And upon your arrival, get a first-hand experience of the world-class Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Another Delhi Airport update, good news for Delhi Flyers. The capital may soon get two international terminals as requested by Indigo Airlines, the largest domestic airline. Indigo Airlines has asked Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to handle the international traffic at the upcoming airport terminal. This new upcoming terminal is supposed to be built for domestic flights only. However, it may get expanded for international passengers too.

Currently, the IGI Airport has three terminals T1, T2, and T3. At present, Indigo flights operate on all these three terminals. The airline is requesting the airport authorities to take their passengers’ comfort and convenience into consideration and allow the airline to operate all the flights from one terminal. All the international flights are presently operating on Terminal-3 only.

The highly anticipated refurbishment of Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi is anticipated to reach its completion by the end of 2023. This noteworthy endeavor stands as one of the paramount undertakings in the ongoing development of the Delhi airport, with the primary objective of addressing challenges such as flight congestion, air traffic, and the escalating demand for air travel.

Based on the official details provided, as per the outlined strategy, there is a comprehensive plan in place to expand and merge Terminals 1D and 1C into a unified Terminal 1. This amalgamation will result in the integration of both departure and arrival sections, housed within a single roof under the all-encompassing Terminal 1. Through this extensive renovation and expansion project, the overall expanse of Delhi’s Terminal 1 will witness a remarkable increase from its current 60,000 square meters to an impressive 169,000 square meters. Consequently, a fully-integrated terminal will be established, seamlessly accommodating departures and arrivals in a unified setting.

This undergoing significant expansion of Delhi Airport is a great initiative led by GMR. The ambitious project encompasses several key developments, including the expansion of Terminal 1 (T1), the construction of a fourth runway, the enhancement of facilities within Terminal 3 (T3), and the introduction of a distinctive ‘dual elevated cross taxiway’ aimed at augmenting passenger capacity. Furthermore, in the pipeline for the airport’s future, there are plans to construct a state-of-the-art Terminal 4 as well as an Air Train system.

Take advantage of the Indian Eagle flight booking agency to secure cost-effective international flight tickets to Delhi. Don’t delay any further! Book tickets now and get the opportunity to personally witness these remarkable enhancements firsthand.

Indira Gandhi International airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and the primary airport serving the needs of flyers to and from the capital of India. It is spread over an area of almost 5,106 acres and is located in the locality of Palam in the city.

Delhi airport handled nearly 22 million passengers in the financial year 2021. Though the aviation sector has seen a massive growth in India in the past few years, a drop of 66% in passenger traffic was seen in 2021. This was largely due to the travel restrictions in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What’s New:

The New Delhi Airport will get a whole new look and a fourth runway after the major expansion project is completed. The renovation work was undertaken by GMR. The authorities also plan to increase the facilities in the Terminal 3 (T3) and make a unique “dual elevated cross taxiway” that will connect the northern and southern airfields. This might eventually increase the passenger handling capacity.

It is said that in the future, construction work for a Terminal 4 and Air Train might also begin.

Terminal 1:

The Indira Gandhi International Airport has three terminals, T1, T2, and T3. Terminal 1 was under renovation and its expansion was completed earlier this year. It now covers an area of 8,000 sq. m. According to the authorities, it now has four new baggage reclaim carousels that will ease things for passengers. T1 handled 20 million passengers annually but after the expansion it will now be able to handle 40 million passengers, almost doubling its capacity.

There is massive space between baggage belts in the new terminal so it could ease the movement. There is also a state-of-the-art meet and greet gallery and various other facilities that will be helpful to the passengers and will provide them with a world-class flying experience.

We might see a future-ready Delhi airport in the coming years that will not only handle millions of people annually but will also ease their travel with state-of-the-art facilities.

You can book flights from USA to India through Indian Eagle and get the cheapest deals.

Delhi Airport Awarded as ‘Best in India and South Asia’ for the 4th Consecutive Time

Improving its rank from 2021’s 45th to 37th this year, the Indira Gandhi International Airport is the only airport in the country to feature in the world’s top 50 airports list. It was also declared the cleanest airport in India and South Asia. These awards were judged by Skytrax World Airport Awards.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is now the first and the only airport in India to run entire operations on solar and hydro power. This step is in line with the airport’s mission to be the Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030. With this latest move, the airport will reduce CO2 emissions by 2 lakh tons every year.

Delhi Airport started utilizing hydro energy from 1st June, 2022. IGIA also meets almost 6% of its electricity requirement via on-site solar power facilities, which are on the cargo terminal roofs and the airside. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is a GMR-led facility. The company has signed an agreement with a hydropower producing company in Himachal Pradesh.

“DIAL has been working relentlessly towards environmental sustainability and has set its target to make Delhi Airport a Net Zero Carbon Emission airport by 2030, way ahead of the global target of 2050. To achieve this, DIAL has adopted a Green Transportation program recently and now we achieved another milestone of the Green Energy Program for IGIA,” said CEO-DIAL Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.

DIAL has been instrumental in launching green initiatives. In 2019, it introduced TaxiBots at the airport; reducing airlines’ fuel consumption during taxiing. It has also initiated a program to slowly phase out all petrol and diesel vehicles and replace them with electric vehicles.

Check out the green initiatives at the Delhi Airport the next time you are there. Indian Eagle offers flight tickets from USA to Delhi and other destinations. Delhi is one of the top places to visit in India. So, book your tickets now!
