Jama Masjid

Constructed by Ahmed Shah in the year 1423, Jama Masjid is amongst the great historical monument in the country. It is a beautiful mosque that was constructed using the materials from the demolished Jain and Hindu temples. One can find evidence of the same in the fusion of brilliant architecture – the lotus carvings of the 15 domes supported by 300 pillars. After visiting the mosque, you can head on to see the Mausoleum housing the graves of Sultan Ahmed Shah, his grandson and his son. The best time to visit is in the evening, when you can feel the peaceful atmosphere in the courtyard. Take a stroll and get engrossed in the stunning architecture.

Sabarmati Ashram

Sabarmati Ashram is one of the major points of interest near Ahmedabad airport, India, as it served as the headquarters of famous freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi for the years from 1917 to 1930. Here‘s something you should know before visiting the place – the reason why Gandhi chose the spot. The area where the Ashram is built lies midway of a jail and a cemetery, and as per Gandhi a non-violent protestor was definitely to land in one place or the other. After Gandhi’s death, his abode is preserved with a record of his life in a museum inside. His life values and teachings are still showcased in the museum as a path finder for tourists visiting the place.

Calico Museum of Textiles

Considered as India’s premier textile museum, the Calico Museum of textiles preserves the most finished antique collection of Indian textiles. To your surprise, some of these are almost 500 years old and the best example of handwork include Kashmiri shawl which is believed to take 3 years for its creation. You can visit the museum anytime during the two tours every day. The morning tour is for the main textile gallery and the afternoon tour is dedicated to the religious art collection by Sarabhai Foundation. It is an ideal place, if you want to learn about India’s rich textile prowess and history.

Kankaria Lake

Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad is a famous tourist attraction in the southern part of the city built by Sultan Qutubuddin in the 15cc. If you want to have a fun time with your friends or family, the largest lake in the city is an ideal spot. There are a lot of things you can indulge into like water rides, toy train for your kids, balloon rides and much more. Akshardham Temple

Situated 28 kilometers from the city of Ahmedabad, Akshardham Temple is one of the magnificent temples in the city for its brilliant architecture. Dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the temple reflects the laws of Swaminarayan faith. The 10 storied temple building with almost 93 sculpted pillars was built using 6000 tonnes pink sandstones. The most amazing thing about the beautiful masterpiece is that it stands erect without a single iron rod. Every year, around 2 million devotees visit Akshardham Temple. There’s also a lake, herbal garden and a waterfall to visit near the temple.

Sabarmati Riverfront

Sabarmati Riverfront is known as one of the famous sightseeing places in Ahmedabad. Situated in Makarba in Ahmedabad, Sarkhej Roza is a popular mosque and tomb complex, best known for its alluring architecture reflecting Mughal’s Islamic style. The mosque is also called Ahmedabad’s Acropolis as its design was compared to Acropolis of Athens by Le Corbusier. Do not forget to visit Ganj Baksh’s Tomb, Persian architectural designs and Sarkhej Lake.
