Once the site of Pan American World Airways‘ humble beginnings, Miami International Airport may soon be home to a museum dedicated to the iconic defunct airline. Pan Am, renowned for its significant contributions to aviation history, left an indelible mark on the industry.
Miami Air International, currently occupying the historic hangar where Pan Am was founded, aims to preserve this legacy by transforming a substantial portion of the hangar into a museum showcasing Pan Am’s rich past. Hangar 5, now known as MIA Building 871, has been earmarked for demolition and replacement by Miami International Airport.
However, the fate of the hangar may be determined by the Miami-Dade County historic preservation board, which could potentially intervene to save the historic structure.
Executives from Miami Air International and its parent company, World Atlantic Airlines, have put forth a compelling proposal to convert a significant section of the hangar into a Pan Am Museum.
