Air India’s presence at the Paris Air Show 2023 continues to make headlines as the carrier finalizes its substantial order with two major aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus.

Both Airbus and Boeing had important orders on the second day of the prestigious event, and it was Boeing that secured the show’s first order. Air India had previously expressed its interest in acquiring 470 aircraft from the two manufacturers, and now the airline has gone a step further by signing purchase agreements with both of them.

Four months ago, Air India made waves with its record-breaking announcement of purchasing 470 aircraft, divided between Airbus and Boeing. At that time, the carrier had signed agreements with the manufacturers to express its intention to acquire the aircraft. However, the final purchase agreements were signed today at the Paris Air Show. This solidifies Air India’s commitment towards enhancing passenger experience. This extensive Air India’s impressive order comprises a mix of narrowbody and widebody planes from both manufacturers. And Airbus leads the way by 50 aircraft.

Air India’s Bold Move: Order for 190 Next-Generation Narrowbody Aircraft in Paris Air Show

Despite recent production setbacks with the MAX, Air India showcased its confidence in Boeing at the Paris Air Show by placing an order for 190 next-generation narrowbody aircraft. This significant order includes both the -8 and -10 variants, with the latter awaiting certification. Air India’s decision highlights its unwavering commitment to fleet expansion and its trust in Boeing’s future offerings.

Air India’s partnership with Airbus remains strong, as the airline has placed an order for 250 aircraft to further enhance its fleet. Despite already operating 27 787s, Air India has chosen the Airbus A350 family as the cornerstone of its fleet renewal. The carrier has ordered 34 of the larger -1000 variants and six of the smaller -900, in addition to 140 A320neos and 70 A321neos.

Air India’s impressive order includes A350s, set to arrive first later this year. The majority of the remaining aircraft will follow after mid-2025, showcasing Air India’s forward-thinking approach.

With IndiGo’s monumental order of 500 aircraft announced in Paris yesterday, Indian carriers now hold two of the largest aircraft orders in history. This development highlights India’s rapidly growing aviation market, solidifying its position as one of the world’s most significant players in the industry.
