The long-awaited Independence Day weekend is approaching. If you’re planning to get away, be prepared for increased traffic and busy airport lines. According to American Automobile Association, this year’s 4th of July weekend travel could witness a surge, potentially setting new records.

The American Automobile Association predicts that a staggering 50.7 million people will embark on journeys spanning 50 miles or more from their homes during the July 4th holiday, surpassing the previous record of 49 million set in 2019. This notable increase in travel is attributed to the relaxation of COVID restrictions and the decline in COVID cases.

Of the total travelers, AAA estimates that 43.2 million individuals will opt for road trips, marking a two percent increase from last year and a four percent increase from 2019. The organization expresses astonishment, stating that they have never projected travel numbers this high for Independence Day weekend.

The American Automobile Association expects a new record in air travel for the 4th of July weekend. It estimates that around 4.17 million Americans will fly during the this time.
