Awarded “Airline of the Year” in 2017, Qatar Airways (QR) is also famed for being one of the fastest progressing airlines across the globe. Qatar’s state-owned impressive flag carrier is headquartered in Doha’s Qatar Airways Tower. The airlines operates a fleet comprising of 180 plus aircraft from its base located at Doha – Hamad International Airport. In 2013, when Qatar Airways became a member of the reputed Oneworld Alliance, it also became the first major Gulf carrier to do so.

A brief history of Qatar Airways

The distinguished airline was first established in the year 1993 in the month of November. Flight operations began early next year. In the year 1995, the number of staff totaled all of 75 and were hired by Sheikh Hamad Bin Ali Bin Jabor Al Thani, the then CEO of Qatar Airways (QR). Over the years, the airline took off exceedingly well and is today one of the most reputed ones in the world. It serves more than 150 global destinations using aircraft belonging to the latest generation. With its top notch service, the airline has also managed to bag several awards over the years. Skytrax has awarded Qatar Airways a five-star rating apart from naming it Airline of the Year for the years 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017 as well.

From its base at Hamad International Airport situated in Doha, Qatar Airways serves a vast number of global destinations. In the year 2012, Qatar Airways added a few more destinations which included Belgrade, Addis Ababa, Baghdad, Maputo, Perth, Erbil, Warsaw, Saint Petersburg, Kilimanjaro, Zagreb, Yangon, Mombasa, and Kigali. By 2014, the airline served an estimated 146 points across the world. Today, it has crossed that number and easily serves more than 150 world destinations.

The inflight entertainment system of Qatar Airways is famously known as Oryx One. Almost all Qatar Airways aircraft have personalized TV sets barring some Airbus A320 aircraft. Not just this, the airline also offers onboard connectivity Wi-Fi. What makes this service incredible is that it allows passengers to send SMS, MMS, check their email as well as browse the internet.

Qatar Airways Lounge

For its First and Business Class travelers, Qatar Airways (QA) launched the Premium Terminal in the year 2006 at the Doha International Airport. The 10,000 square meter terminal was constructed at a cost of US $90 million over a span of 9 months. The facilities include check-in, play areas, duty-free shopping, sauna, Jacuzzi, spa treatments, restaurants, and conference rooms. The seating capacity in the posh business class lounge has been increased by a whopping 80 percent.

For Premium passengers of Qatar Airways (QR), the Al Mourjan Business Lounge was opened in the year 2014. The impressive lounge is the size of approximately 10 Olympic swimming pools put together. The access to this awesome lounge is only for passengers of Qatar Airways and one world first and business class.

The latest Premium Lounge opened by Qatar Airways (QR) was in January at Charles de Gaulle Airport. This is the airline’s second international lounge with the first one being in London’s Heathrow Airport.
