India has opened its first 14-D virtual zoo in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, bringing together immersive wildlife experiences, a 14-D theatre and a virtual jungle safari. The new attractions were inaugurated at Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden (Indore Zoo) on August 16, 2026.

India’s first virtual zoo introduces technology-based attractions that allow visitors to experience wildlife and forests without entering an actual forest. The initiative is designed to combine wildlife education, entertainment and immersive technology.

Special Attractions of the Virtual Zoo

Unlike a conventional zoo, where visitors observe live animals in enclosures, the new facility uses digital and immersive technology to create simulated wildlife experiences. The main attractions include:

14-D Cinema

One of the biggest attractions is the 14-D theatre. It goes beyond conventional 2D, 3D or even standard 4D cinema by combining visual content with immersive physical effects. Visitors wear VR glasses, while specially designed seats and effects respond to the scenes shown on screen. The theatre can simulate experiences including:

  • Wind
  • Rain
  • Water splashes
  • Vibrations
  • Movement
  • Forest environments
  • Wildlife encounters
  • Mountain descents
  • Roller-coaster-like motion

For example, when rain appears in a film, visitors can experience water sprays. If a scene involves movement or a mountain descent, the seats can move in sync with the visuals. The theatre uses 14 special effects to create an immersive experience.

Virtual Jungle Safari

The virtual jungle safari is another attraction within the complex. Instead of travelling into an actual forest, visitors can use technology to experience a simulated wildlife environment.  The facility is intended to give people a closer understanding of forests, animals and nature while providing an entertaining experience. This can be particularly useful for children and families who want to learn about wildlife in an interactive environment.

Hologram Zoo

The project also includes a hologram zoo. It uses three-dimensional projections to display animals and other creatures, creating the appearance of wildlife in the surrounding space.  The attraction was included as part of the broader digital zoo concept.

Digital Garden and Digital Maze

The virtual zoo complex also features a digital garden and digital maze. These attractions are intended to expand the experience beyond the cinema and safari. Together with the digital experience zone, they combine technology, nature and education within the zoo environment. Earlier reports also mentioned facilities such as a waterfall and cafeteria within the complex.
