If you love to enjoy a snack or drink mid-air, there’s some good news coming your way, especially if you’re an American Airlines AAdvantage member.

American Airlines has introduced a new option for travelers to redeem AAdvantage miles for inflight snacks and drinks. This new option lets passengers use their miles for treats onboard, making flying more enjoyable and flavorful.

How does AAdvantage miles work?

Starting now, American Airlines AAdvantage members can redeem as few as 500 miles to purchase snacks or beverages on board American Airlines mainline flights and this excludes flights operated by American Eagle. That means if you’re flying domestically and looking to enjoy something beyond the complimentary options, your miles can now cover the cost.

To use this perk, make sure your AAdvantage number is added to your booking before travel. Once onboard, show your digital or printed boarding pass to the flight attendant, who will scan it to deduct the miles. They’ll scan it, and the cost of miles will be deducted directly from your account.

What snacks does American Airlines serve?

While American Airlines snacks vary depending on the flight length, here’s a quick idea of what you might find:

  • Cool Ranch Doritos Minis
  • Fruit and cheese plates
  • Almonds or other packaged snacks
  • Alcoholic beverages like Bud Light, Tito’s vodka, Goose IPA, or Jack Daniel’s whiskey

These items are available for purchase on domestic flights over 250 miles, and even more snack options become available on flights longer than 1,300 miles.

If you’re wondering, does American Airlines give snacks for free,  yes, they do. Complimentary snacks like Biscoff cookies and pretzels, along with drinks such as water, soda, juice, tea, and coffee, are still served on flights over 250 miles. The new AAdvantage redemption option applies to additional items you’d typically have to pay for.

AAdvantage Cardholder Perks

If you hold an American Airlines co-branded credit card, you might already enjoy 25% off inflight snacks and beverages when paying with your card. However, this discount doesn’t apply when redeeming miles, just something to keep in mind when deciding whether to pay cash or use miles.

For many travelers, especially those who don’t fly frequently, miles can sit in an account unused. This new American Airlines AAdvantage feature gives you a practical, no-fuss way to enjoy a little extra during your flight. It’s also worth noting that using a few hundred miles on a snack can be a smart choice if you’re flying on a short-haul trip or don’t have enough miles for a full award ticket.

When planning your trip, consider booking with Indian Eagle for great deals on flights. And now, thanks to AAdvantage American Airlines, you can treat yourself mid-flight without reaching for your wallet.

Next time you are on a flight to USA or any other destination and wondering what snacks American Airlines serve, check the menu, show your boarding pass, and use those miles. Because now, your points can be just as satisfying as the snacks themselves.
