Vistara plans to stop providing the 200ml water bottles to the passengers as an initiative towards reducing plastic use. On Wednesday, the airlines announced how it plans to eliminate all the 200 ml water bottles and the flyers will now be offered water in environmental friendly paper cups. The step first implemented in a Delhi-Mumbai flight on July 16, 2019 and will now cover almost all Vistara flights across the network, moving in a phased manner.
From a statement by Vistara airlines, “This initiative was implemented on Delhi-Mumbai flights on July 16, and will be extended to all flights across the airline’s network in phases over the coming weeks. Economy class customers, who were hitherto given water in small plastic bottles, will now be served mineral water in environment-friendly paper cups.”
Vistara also confirmed that it has minimized the use of single-use plastic and has aimed to reduce it further to 50% by the end of this year. This is one of the many measures taken by the airlines to become eco-friendly. Moreover, Vistara has also turned for bio-degradable and renewable sources for in-flight packaging.
Vistara is the only airline carrier in the country that serves oxo-biodegradable pouch and cutlery to the economy class flyers. The airlines have even replaced the plastic casseroles with aluminum dishes in the economy class and the China casseroles in the Premium economy. Not just this, the stirrers and plastic straws are also replaced by wooden or paper ones in the economy class. The airlines no more uses disposable bowls in the Economy class as it is now replaced with the reusable ones.
