International airlines are aiming to strengthen their network. Time and again, we see carriers ordering more aircraft to enhance their operations. And Turkish Airlines seems to be doing the same. After pausing its humongous Boeing order, Turkish Airlines is in talks with the aircraft maker again. With this Turkish Airlines fleet expansion, the carrier will have around 500 aircraft by September 2025.
Turkish Airlines connects to more than 300 destinations worldwide. The expansion of Turkish Airlines fleet in 2025 will further strengthen its global presence and increase its operational capacity.
Turkish Airlines Fleet Expansion
The Turkish Airlines fleet currently has 373 Airbus and Boeing passenger jets. The Turkish Airlines fleet expansion has been consistent over the years. In 2006, Turkish Airlines had 100 jets, which doubled to 200 by 2012. The fleet grew to 300 by 2016 and it had 400 aircraft in its fleet by 2024. With pending orders, the airline aims to reach its ambitious goal of operating 500 aircraft by September 2025. This means more Turkish Airlines flights to international destinations.
But this is just the beginning. By 2033—coinciding with its 100th anniversary—Turkish Airlines expects to have around 813 aircraft in its fleet. Furthermore, Turkish Airlines aims to continue its global footprint.

A Well-Balanced Fleet of Boeing and Airbus Aircraft
Turkish Airlines maintains a varied fleet comprising both Boeing and Airbus aircraft. The Boeing models in its fleet include the 737-800, 737-900ER, MAX 8, MAX 9, 777-300ER, and the 787-9 Dreamliner. As the airline aims to expand its fleet size significantly, it is in the process of finalizing an order with Boeing, although it is encountering delays attributed to delivery schedules and engine pricing.
Since 2023, Turkish Airlines has finalized an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of
60 A350-900 aircraft, 15 A350-1000 aircraft, and 150 A321neo aircraft. Turkish Airlines is one of the largest operators of the A350 and maintains a good collaboration with Airbus. Nevertheless, Boeing continues to play a crucial role in its growth strategy, with a keen interest in additional 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Amidst delays and increasing competition, Boeing is motivated to finalize the agreement and uphold its market presence.
