US President Donald Trump’s visit to India has been the talk of the town ever since its announcement earlier this month! His brief stay for two days in India comprises attending the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad, a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, and the vital rendezvous in Delhi involving discussion on trade, defense deals, and bilateral ties.
President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, their daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Monday and were cordially received by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. It marked Trump’s first trip to India in the designation of America’s leader. They visited the Sabarmati Ashram and set off to be present at the Namaste Trump program.
Ahmedabad’s Motera Cricket Stadium, the largest cricket stadium in the world hosted the grand event. It witnessed the phenomenal attendance of around 1.25 lakh people, including villagers, students, businessmen and women, who flocked to the Stadium to cheer the leaders. They were seen donning white caps, imprinted with the ‘Namaste Trump’ logo. Cultural programs were also organized in the stadium to entertain the guests.
Thousands of people participated in the remarkable 22-km-long roadshow and ceremonially welcomed the US President. The performances on the stages lining the road illustrated the diverse culture and tradition of India. Trump seemed overwhelmed and was quoted as saying, “Nobody else that came here got the reception that I got yesterday. We had thousands of people outside. That was an incredible scene.”
Both the leaders addressed the sea of people in the stadium. Trump began his speech with ‘Namaste’ and heaped praise on the Prime Minister and his policies, the country of India and its inspiring evolution, the shared principle of freedom and democracy practiced in the two nations. He said, ‘India gives hope to all of humanity’ and talked about his intention to advance defense, security and trade ties between both the nations. Referring to Narendra Modi’s journey from chai-wala to the PM of India, he reflected that the life of Modi “underscores India’s limitless promise.” He also made a special mention of Swami Vivekananda, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Bollywood films, and Indian festivals during his speech.
Acknowledging the US President’s speech, Narendra Modi exuberantly thanked Trump and stated that India-US relationship is far more than a mere alliance, said the nations are ‘natural partners.’ Modi reinforced that Trump’s visit is the beginning of a new chapter in the history of India-US bond. He went on to elucidate the deeper meaning in naming the program as “Namaste Trump” and remarked that the mutual cooperation between India and America plays a crucial role in ‘determining the world’s direction.’
After the event, Donald Trump and his family headed to visit the Taj Mahal at Agra.
