Indira Gandhi International airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and the primary airport serving the needs of flyers to and from the capital of India. It is spread over an area of almost 5,106 acres and is located in the locality of Palam in the city.

Delhi airport handled nearly 22 million passengers in the financial year 2021. Though the aviation sector has seen a massive growth in India in the past few years, a drop of 66% in passenger traffic was seen in 2021. This was largely due to the travel restrictions in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What’s New:

The New Delhi Airport will get a whole new look and a fourth runway after the major expansion project is completed. The renovation work was undertaken by GMR. The authorities also plan to increase the facilities in the Terminal 3 (T3) and make a unique “dual elevated cross taxiway” that will connect the northern and southern airfields. This might eventually increase the passenger handling capacity.

It is said that in the future, construction work for a Terminal 4 and Air Train might also begin.

Terminal 1:

The Indira Gandhi International Airport has three terminals, T1, T2, and T3. Terminal 1 was under renovation and its expansion was completed earlier this year. It now covers an area of 8,000 sq. m. According to the authorities, it now has four new baggage reclaim carousels that will ease things for passengers. T1 handled 20 million passengers annually but after the expansion it will now be able to handle 40 million passengers, almost doubling its capacity.

There is massive space between baggage belts in the new terminal so it could ease the movement. There is also a state-of-the-art meet and greet gallery and various other facilities that will be helpful to the passengers and will provide them with a world-class flying experience.

We might see a future-ready Delhi airport in the coming years that will not only handle millions of people annually but will also ease their travel with state-of-the-art facilities.

Bangalore is one of the top ten tourist places in India and has millions of tourists flying to the city annually. To cater to the growing needs of the flyers, a new ‘080 lounge’ has been unveiled at the terminal 1 of the Bangalore international airport.

This domestic and international lounge was revealed on Wednesday, i.e, 8th June 2022. It will provide an immersive experience of various lounge services to the flyers.

‘080’ is the trunk dial code of the city, this is how the lounge got its name. It has a movie screening area, a library, buffet setups, several bar counters, and various other facilities for the passengers.

According to the senior official representing Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the lounges at the Bangalore airport are world-class and these establish a strong dedication and connection to the city. Apart from its name, various design elements such as inclusion of artisans, heritage, art, and flora reflect the diverse and rich culture of Bangalore. To reaffirm the city’s reputation as the ‘garden city of India’, greenery in the form of inverted gardens has been creatively added throughout the lounges here. He also said that the lounge 080 will leave a lasting impression of the city in the minds of the travelers as it has been meticulously designed to meet the unique requirements of each passenger.

This lounge, operated by Travel Food Services (TFS) is available for flyers who are members of their loyalty programs, the partner airline or the patrons who want to use these services before their flight.

Other features at the lounge include a Wellness Zone that comes with therapy rooms, an Entertainment Pod, which has an enclosed area to watch movies, and a Quiet Lounge that has a library for those who love to read and are seeking solitude at the busy Bangalore airport.

The authorities at BIAL also established a 080 Transit Hotel that will provide a convenient and comfortable accommodation for passengers in-transit. The best thing about this is that they offer flexible hourly rates so passengers can utilize this to relax between long layovers due to connecting flights. Celebrity chef Abhijit Saha along with his team of professionals is in charge of providing amazing culinary experiences to the flyers. It is also said that the lounges will follow the sustainability principles adhering to BIAL’s commitment for a sustainable future. The menu here is prepared using fresh, artisanal, and local ingredients that are chemical-free and grown in various villages near the Bangalore airport.

You can book flights to Bangalore through Indian Eagle and experience the new amenities offered at the 080 lounge during your trip here.
