Air India has announced a decrease in the free baggage allowance for its lowest fare bracket, reducing the allowed weight from 20 kg to 15 kg. The change is part of the Tata Group’s broader aim to revitalize the airline.

Travelers booked on ‘Economy Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ tickets will now be liable to the new Air India baggage allowance.

Air India’s New Baggage Policy

Since Tata Group’s takeover in 2022, Air India’s baggage policy has seen many changes. Previously, the airline allowed 25 kg of free baggage, which was reduced to 20 kg last year. This latest revision brings Air India closer to other carriers’ regular baggage limitations. While some budget airlines restrict tourists to a single piece of luggage, Air India allows multiple bags as long as the overall weight does not exceed the permitted limit.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandates airlines to allow at least 15 kg of free checked baggage. For tourists who choose higher-priced ‘Economy Flex’ tickets, Air India provides a 25 kg allowance as well as extra perks such as no-change fees on their tickets. This improves convenience and value for travelers who plan to book flights to USA or other destinations with different requirements.

Airline Enhanced Benefits

Air India highlighted the benefits of various pricing options, adding that for an extra INR 1,000 on routes like Delhi-Mumbai, tourists can get benefits worth nearly INR 9,000. These include an extra 10 kg of baggage, no charge for ticket changes or cancellations, more loyalty points, and a wider selection of free seats.

These pricing categories, which were introduced last year, aim to fulfill various passenger needs with specific services, rather than a one-size-fits-all strategy. Bundled fares provide excellent savings and flexibility, reflecting a global trend among airlines to encourage lighter travel by limiting free baggage allowances or charging for extra baggage.

The Air India baggage allowance of 15 kg on lower fares will likely enhance the airline’s efficiency. It allows tourists to choose from a range of ticket types which provide additional benefits. The change is part of Air India’s ongoing initiatives to improve passenger service and simplify operations.

If you’re planning to visit the USA or India, book Indian Eagle flights. Through Air India manage bookings, you can book cheap last-minute flight tickets up to 5 hours before boarding. All you need to do is pack your things and arrive at the airport on time. So you can have an amazing vacation.

Tata Group has announced that it is planning to combine Vistara and Air India. The partnership will result in a more extensive airline that will be able to provide both affordable and comfortable passenger services.

Currently, the Tata Group owns 51% of Vistara, with the remainder held by Singapore Airlines. It symbolizes a significant unification in India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector. The transaction, which will make Air India the country’s largest international carrier and second-largest domestic carrier, is planned to close in March 2024.

Various teams are working on various aspects of the merger, including frequent flyer programs. It will take some time to finalize the details. The necessary changes will be made as soon as possible. The combination of both airlines would create an outstanding airline. Air India can benefit from Vistara’s functional abilities, and a decisive priority on passenger service, as Vistara is widely recognized as India’s leading complete service carrier.

Air India is concentrating on boosting its network, updating its customer requests, and enhancing timely arrivals, security, and trustworthiness as part of its adaption. The collaboration will aid in the development of a robust Air India that will provide affordable and satisfying services to passengers across all their flight routes.

Air India nowadays offers business, economy, and first-class seating facilities, whereas Vistara offers economy, premium economy, and business classes. Once the merger is completed, passengers will have more options to choose a comfortable flight trip under one roof of the Tata group.
