Qatar Airways has added Starlink Wi-Fi to its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. With this upgrade, Qatar Airways now has 150 widebody aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi. More than half of its Boeing 787 fleet offers the service. The rollout will give more passengers access to free, high-speed internet on long-haul international flights.

The carrier first introduced Starlink in October 2024. The airline later added it to its Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787-8 aircraft. It is now the first airline to offer Starlink on a Boeing 787-9.It also completed the installation across its Boeing 787-8 fleet in seven months. Qatar Airways plans to equip its remaining Boeing 787 aircraft by the end of 2026.

What Can Passengers Do With Starlink Wi-Fi?

Starlink provides internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps on eligible flights. Passengers can use the connection at an altitude of around 35,000 feet to:

• Send messages and emails
• Browse websites and social media
• Stream movies and videos
• Download or upload files
• Stay connected with family and friends
• Complete office work during the flight
• Join online meetings when conditions allow

Is This Wi-Fi Free?

The airline provides Starlink Wi-Fi free of charge on equipped aircraft. Passengers may need to log in or enroll in Qatar Airways Privilege Club to access it. Travelers can use the internet from boarding until arrival where local rules allow gate-to-gate connectivity. However, gate-to-gate internet may not be available at some airports due to local regulations.

The carrier may also change the scheduled aircraft for operational reasons. Passengers should check their flight details before departure to confirm whether their aircraft offers Starlink.

On August 19, 2026, Lufthansa operated its first passenger flight with the new Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi powered by Starlink. The aircraft was an Airbus A320neo registered D-AINM. It operated flight LH234 from Frankfurt to Rome, departing Frankfurt at 12:15 p.m. At an altitude of around 10,000 meters, Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter activated the new system, officially beginning the rollout. 

How fast is Lufthansa’s new Starlink internet? 

Lufthansa describes the new connection as high-speed broadband internet capable of supporting applications that traditionally require a strong connection on the ground.

Passengers can use it for:

• Web browsing
• Video streaming
• Messaging
• Cloud-based work
• Real-time collaboration
• Other high-bandwidth applications

Lufthansa says the connection can, in many cases, be faster than the internet connection passengers have at home or in their offices. The technology uses Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network, which is designed to provide higher bandwidth and lower latency than many conventional satellite-based aircraft connectivity systems.

Is Lufthansa Starlink Wi-Fi free? 

Yes, for eligible passengers. Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi is available free of charge to Miles & More members and Travel ID users, regardless of travel class. That means eligible passengers in Economy can use the service just like passengers in premium cabins. Passengers need to sign in using their Travel ID or Miles & More membership to access the complimentary service.

Does it work in every cabin?

Yes. Lufthansa says the new Wi-Fi is available across all travel classes, from Economy through First Class, on aircraft equipped with the system. The important distinction is that not every Lufthansa aircraft has Starlink yet. The rollout is still in its early stages.

How many Lufthansa aircraft will get Starlink?

The project is much larger than the initial A320neo launch. Lufthansa Group plans to equip approximately 850 aircraft across its airlines with Starlink by 2029. The company says this would make Lufthansa Group the largest airline group in Europe to deploy this high-speed connectivity technology across such a large fleet. The rollout will cover both existing aircraft and new aircraft entering the fleet.

Which airlines will get Starlink?

The technology is being introduced across the wider Lufthansa Group. The airlines preparing for the rollout include:

Lufthansa says up to 10 additional A320-family aircraft operated by Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines are planned to receive the technology during 2026. Installations are primarily being carried out at Lufthansa Technik in Berlin, with the work coordinated with scheduled aircraft maintenance and technical inspections to reduce downtime. The broader rollout will then continue across the Lufthansa Group fleet.

Can passengers stream movies and videos?

Yes. The new connection is specifically designed to support video streaming and other bandwidth-intensive services. Lufthansa says passengers can watch content, work in the cloud and use other high-speed applications during the flight. However, Lufthansa has established onboard usage rules to keep the cabin environment comfortable.

Passengers are asked to:

• Use headphones when watching videos or listening to audio.
• Avoid voice calls and video calls.
• Avoid live streaming from the aircraft.

The restrictions are intended to prevent passengers’ internet use from disturbing other travelers.

Can passengers use multiple devices?

Lufthansa’s current Wi-Fi information says passengers can use the service on all their devices, providing flexibility for people carrying phones, tablets and laptops. The system is intended to provide a continuous connection from departure through arrival on equipped flights.

Can passengers check whether their flight has Starlink?

Not yet in a comprehensive way. Lufthansa currently says the service is available only on selected aircraft and flights, and it is gradually being rolled out. At the beginning of the rollout, passengers cannot yet reliably check availability before a flight. Lufthansa says a flight-search function will be introduced as the service becomes available on more aircraft. So simply booking a Lufthansa flight does not currently guarantee Starlink Wi-Fi.

What happens to FlyNet?

Lufthansa is effectively moving toward a new connectivity experience through Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi powered by Starlink. The airline’s current internet overview lists two onboard options:

2. FlyNet

The new Starlink-based service is being progressively introduced while the fleet is upgraded.

Newark Liberty International Airport has climbed to the top of Northeast U.S. airport on-time rankings in 2026, with operational gains tied to improved scheduling and reliability from United Airlines. 

Strong On-Time Performance and Passenger Growth 

In April–May 2026, United Airlines posted its best-ever on-time performance at its key New York hub, carrying nearly 5.8 million passengers and recording a Memorial Day surge of about 3 million travelers, with close to 70% arriving on schedule. For the 2026 summer travel period, the carrier is projecting over 53 million travelers systemwide, signaling strong demand and continued strain on capacity across its hub network.

Recovery After Major Operational Disruptions 

The airport’s improvement follows a challenging spring 2025 period driven by Federal Aviation Administration system outages, air traffic control staffing shortages, and runway construction, which together led to widespread operational disruptions. In response, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and the FAA implemented corrective actions. These included staffing improvements, technology upgrades, and flight schedule adjustments to better align operations with airport capacity. 

Newark as a Global Gateway 

The airport remains a critical international hub for the carrier.  The airport connects travelers to nearly 320 cities across North, South, and Central America, and the Caribbean, including 120 destinations reachable with a single connection. The hub also provides nonstop service to 42 international destinations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and India, making it one of the most globally connected airports in the New York region. 

United’s New International Routes 

The carrier’s Newark operations now include 15 unique destinations not offered by any other U.S. carrier. Recent and upcoming route additions include Split (Croatia), Bari (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland), and Santiago de Compostela (Spain). As part of its expansion plan, the airline is planning to launch a Newark–Seoul nonstop route on September 4, 2026, alongside exclusive New York-area service to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands starting October.

In-Flight Experience and Digital Services 

→ Starlink Wi-Fi is currently installed on over 25% of daily regional operations, with broader rollout to the mainline fleet in progress and full availability expected by 2027. 

→ In-flight entertainment has expanded to over 800 aircraft, now featuring Bluetooth-enabled seatback screens and more than 2,200 hours of content from Apple TV, HBO Max, Peacock, A24, and Spotify. 

→ Larger overhead bins have been introduced to increase cabin storage capacity for passengers. 

→ Passengers can now pre-order expanded onboard meals via the airline’s website and mobile app, with options including burgers, sandwiches, and snack boxes. 

→ Real-time travel tools in the airline’s app include live boarding updates, baggage tracking, TSA wait time estimates, and gate navigation support. 

→ The loyalty ecosystem, powered by MileagePlus, continues integrating digital tools to improve customer engagement and travel convenience.
