Dal Lake is one of the top tourist attractions in India and draws thousands of travelers every year. To make this gorgeous lake a little more tourist-friendly, the government of India has planned to develop nearly five tourist villages around it.

The Tourist Villages Development program comes under the Mission Youth initiative and it aims to develop approximately 75 villages that have excellent scenic beauty, rich history, amazing art or culture, and adventurous terrains. This is gaining immense momentum with tourists flocking the new destinations. For this program, the villages are being selected based on the potential of their rural tourism. The Tourism Department is also being consulted by an expert committee of Mission Youth.

Panchari, a small yet serene village in the district of Udhampur has been selected as the first tourist village offering homestays. This was launched after the government took an initiative to promote homestay tourism in the union territory.

Tinda Mohallah, Sofi Mohalla, Akhoon Mohalla, Kachri Mohalla, and a vegetable market are the five places that the government has decided to develop into tourist villages in Dal Lake. These will be equipped with the basic facilities for both the residents and travelers. Homestay facilities will also be made available for tourists here.

Popular as the ‘jewel in the crown of Kashmir’, Dal Lake is integral for Jammu and Kashmir Tourism. It also holds importance in commercial operations for water plant harvesting and fishing.

This initiative will not only promote homestays in Jammu and Kashmir but also make the rural economy stronger. It will also help in turning the majority of youth into entrepreneurs and empower women by providing countless opportunities for their employment.

You can now book cheap flights to India and travel to Srinagar so you can explore any of these mesmerizing tourist villages with your loved ones.
