The new Mopa International Airport will connect Goa, a popular tourist attraction in India with other major cities across the country such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur. 

A Greenfield Airport

The Manohar Parrikar International Airport will become the 10th greenfield airport in India. The Aviation Ministry has given its approval for nearly 21 such airports and nine out of these are already functional. The existing greenfield airports are as follows: 

  1. Shirdi Airport in Maharashtra
  2. Sindhudurg Airport in Maharashtra
  3. Kalaburagi Airport in Karnataka
  4. Kurnool Airport in Andhra Pradesh
  5. Kannur International Airport in Kerala
  6. Durgapur Airport in West Bengal
  7. Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh
  8. Donyi Polo Airport in Arunachal Pradesh
  9. Pakyong Airport in Sikkim

After the Manohar Parrikar International Airport starts operations on 5th January next year, it will become India’s 10th greenfield airport. The addition of this new airport will serve both domestic and international tourists visiting Goa and make their travel hassle-free.

Goa International Airport also called Dabolim Airport is the only airport serving the state of Goa, situated at a distance of 4km from Vasco de Gama and 29km from southwest of Panaji. It is the 10th biggest airport as per the records of passenger traffic. In 2017, the airport catered to over 7.6 million passengers. Even though the number is small, daily 30-40 fly off from Goa International Airport.

Goa International Airport has an integrated terminal building operating since 2014. The terminal building that manages the entire passenger traffic, both Goa Airport Departures and arrivals of domestic and international flights. The airport holds a capacity of 2,750 passengers during peak hours.

Taxi: Prepaid taxis are easily available at Dabolim or Goa Airport. You can get a taxi from the prepaid taxi counter in front of the terminal building as you make an exit from the Goa Airport Arrivals. The prices vary between 400-500INR from the airport to Panaji (45 minutes).

Buses: AN inter-state bus service is available connecting passengers to Vasco de Gama and Chicalim. However, if you are new to the place it is a crowded option and not so comfortable.

Shuttles: shuttle services are very ideal for tourists coming to Goa International Airport. Many popular hotels offer free shuttle services from the Airport to Panjim.
