Emirates has marked a milestone in cabin modernization by completing its first high-density Emirates A380 premium economy retrofit on a 615-seat aircraft. The refurbished aircraft returned to service on May 20, 2026, following a two-month overhaul, and now features an upgraded three-class layout with a premium economy cabin on the upper deck for the first time. 

The retrofit is part of Emirates’ ongoing mission to modernize its fleet by aligning its older A380s with current customer expectations. In the older Emirates high-density A380 aircraft, there were 557 economy seats and 58 business class seats. The updated Emirates high-density A380 has seen a reduction of 120 economy seats while adding 56 premium economy seats and 18 additional business class seats. 

New Four-Class A380 Interior Upgrade

The Emirates A380 retrofit gives the upper deck an upgraded look with the airline’s popular premium economy configuration. This follows the airline’s efforts to upgrade the rest of its aircraft, including retrofits for its older A380 and Boeing 777 fleet, to ensure passengers receive a quality premium experience. The Emirates new A380 interior features:

• Enhanced Premium Economy Class seats with improved legroom and adjustable headrests 
• Redesigned cabin layout for better passenger comfort
• Improved business class seating to complement the premium economy section

Emirates has introduced its new premium economy cabin, allowing passengers to enjoy a more comfortable flight experience whether traveling for business or leisure. 

Emirates Premium Economy Seating Retrofit Program

Emirates retrofit initiative was first announced in 2021 and has expanded over the years. The program now includes 219 aircraft as part of a multibillion-dollar investment. So far, 95 aircraft have been retrofitted, including 42 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s.  Moreover, Emirates is ensuring that newly added aircraft, including the Airbus A350-900, are fitted with the latest cabin configuration. By the end of 2026, all 15 high-density A380s will receive retrofits, along with further upgrades to other aircraft in the fleet. 

Therefore, passengers flying aboard a refurbished Emirates A380 can expect a more comfortable travel experience, especially on Emirates premium economy flights in 2026.
