Refurbished Runway with LED LIghting at Denver Airport
The highlight of the upgrade is the addition of thousands of LED lights along the 12,000 ft runway, designated as 17L-35R. The eastern expanse of the airport’s vast 52.4 square mile area received a facelift, with crews replacing substantial pavement and recycling tons of concrete. The runway makeover, complemented by over 2,000 LED lights, ensures improved visibility and safety, especially during challenging conditions or nighttime operations. While DEN’s layout boasts six non-intersecting runways, safety challenges arose with the placement of two taxiways around runway 17L-35R. In response, the airport recently opened a new taxiway addressing potential risks associated with runway incursions or collisions.
