Travelers looking to escape New York City for a weekend at the Jersey Shore will soon have a new way to get there. High-speed ferry operator Seastreak is introducing seasonal service between Lower Manhattan and Point Pleasant Beach, offering a direct alternative to crowded highways and lengthy train connections.
The new route is scheduled to operate on select weekends from June 19 through August 9, with an additional service period running from September 4 to September 7. The ferry ride is expected to take approximately 75 minutes each way, providing passengers with a convenient and scenic trip to one of New Jersey’s most popular shore destinations.

Final Approval Still Pending
Before the service can officially launch, it must receive final approval from local borough officials. The borough council recently voted 3-2 to advance a temporary permit for the summer operation. A public hearing and final vote are scheduled for June 15, just days before the first planned sailing. The outcome will determine whether the route begins service as planned later in June.
A Faster Route to the Jersey Shore
If approved, the route could offer a welcome alternative for travelers frustrated by weekend traffic on the Garden State Parkway. The service is also expected to appeal to visitors seeking a car-free trip to Point Pleasant Beach, home to popular attractions including Jenkinson’s Boardwalk, amusement rides, restaurants, and wide stretches of sandy shoreline.
For New Yorkers, the ferry creates a simple path from Lower Manhattan to the Jersey Shore. For New Jersey residents, it offers another transportation option during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
