Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is set to increase its international handling capacity with Pier C at Terminal 3 (T3) scheduled to begin international operations in the first week of May.

Current Capacity and Expansion

Terminal 3 (T3) is currently the only terminal handling international flights, with a capacity of around 20 million passengers per year. After expansion, its capacity is expected to rise to approximately 30–32 million passengers annually, representing an increase of about 10–12 million passengers or nearly 50% growth. This additional capacity is broadly in line with DIAL’s estimate of around 10 million extra international passengers per year.

Terminal 3 Operational Restructuring

In parallel, T3 is undergoing operational restructuring across its four piers: A, B, C, and D. Piers A and B currently handle international operations, while Piers C and D are used for domestic flights. As part of the restructuring, Pier C is being converted for international operations. This shift is expected to transfer a significant portion of domestic handling to other infrastructure, thereby freeing up additional capacity to support growing international traffic.

Airside and Gate Capacity Improvements

The Pier C upgrade also includes significant airside infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving operational efficiency and aircraft handling capacity.

  • The upgrade adds 16 Code C aircraft stands with gates.
  • Faster aircraft turnaround is expected due to improved operational flow.
  • Gate allocation efficiency is being enhanced across the terminal.
  • Wide-body aircraft stands for international operations have increased by approximately 40%.

Passenger Processing Enhancements

Several upgrades are being implemented to improve passenger flow and processing efficiency.

  • 12 new self-baggage drop counters have been added, increasing the total to 26.
  • 16 boarding gates have been converted for international use.
  • 40 additional immigration counters have been added in arrivals.

With a combined capacity of around 106 million passengers annually across T1, T2, and T3, Delhi airport reflects the sheer scale of one of the country’s busiest aviation gateways.

DigiYatra App

How to Use the DigiYatra App

  • Install the official DigiYatra app on your smartphone from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Sign up using your mobile number linked with Aadhaar. You will need to complete Aadhaar-based verification for identity setup.
  • After verification, your identity and facial data are securely stored to generate a DigiYatra ID.
  • Enter or scan your boarding pass in the app for your upcoming domestic flight.
  • At DigiYatra-enabled airports, your face is scanned for automatic entry, security, and boarding, so you don’t need to repeatedly show your ID or boarding pass.

After completing the DigiYatra process, proceed to the dedicated entry e-gate at the airport, scan your boarding pass, and complete facial recognition to enter. If you have checked-in luggage, drop it at the airline counter; otherwise, move directly to security. At the DigiYatra security gate, complete another facial scan for access. After clearing security, proceed to your boarding gate for departure.

FAQs

Do I still need to carry a physical ID if I use DigiYatra?

Yes. Even though DigiYatra uses facial recognition for entry, airlines and airport authorities may still ask for a valid government ID as a backup during check-in or security verification.

Is DigiYatra data stored permanently in the system?

No. DigiYatra is designed with a privacy-first approach. Passenger biometric data is generally stored in an encrypted form on the user’s device and is shared only temporarily for verification during travel.

Can two people use the same DigiYatra app on one phone?

No. Each DigiYatra profile is linked to a single individual’s identity. However, one person can help multiple family members install and register the app on their respective devices.

What happens if facial recognition fails at the airport gate?

If the system fails to recognize your face, you are redirected to the manual verification process using your boarding pass and ID proof. It does not delay your travel significantly.

Can I use DigiYatra without Aadhaar?

Most registrations are Aadhaar-based for identity verification, but alternative ID methods may be supported depending on airline and airport policy. Aadhaar significantly simplifies onboarding.

India’s aviation sector is expanding, and a major project has now opened. Noida International Airport is officially inaugurated. However, scheduled commercial flights have not fully started yet and are expected in mid‑April to May 2026. Operations will begin in phases, and airlines will add routes gradually. Here is what travelers need to know about this new airport.

Infrastructure and Features of the Airport

The airport is located in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh.. It serves the Delhi NCR region. Key details include:

  • Initial capacity is 12 million passengers per annum (Phase I)
  • Future capacity will reach 70 million passengers
  • Distance from central Delhi is about 72 km

The airport aims to support growing passenger traffic. It will reduce pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport. The infrastructure is built to handle both domestic and international travel. Facilities will expand as operations increase.

Flights and Connectivity

Flights will not start at full scale immediately. Airlines are expected to begin scheduled commercial services in mid‑April to May 2026.

Current situation:

Limited commercial flight operations are expected initially.

Airlines are still finalizing routes

Approvals and testing are ongoing

Over time:

More domestic routes will be added

International routes will follow gradually

Passenger traffic will increase step by step

Why Noida Airport Flights Limited Now?

Many travelers expect flights immediately after launch. But airport operations take time to scale. Here are some reasons flights are starting slowly because airlines need time to shift routes.. Regulatory approvals are required, ground systems need testing and passenger services must be stabilized. Noida International Airport flights will increase step by step.

This approach ensures reliable operations.India continues to expand its airport network. In 2014, India had 74 airports. Today, it has more than 16, this growth reflects strong travel demand. It also shows investment in infrastructure. Noida International Airport plays a key role in this expansion. It supports both domestic and international flights in the future.

Travel Tips for Passengers

Passengers should plan carefully during the initial phase. Here are some simple tips:

  • Check flight availability before booking
  • Compare flights from Delhi and nearby airports
  • Use road transport or cabs to reach the airport
  • Allow extra travel time due to distance

Noida International Airport opening date marks an important step in India’s aviation growth. Flights will increase gradually as operations expand. The airport will support future travel demand in the region. For now, passengers should plan trips carefully and check updates.

If you are booking international flights, explore Indian Eagle deals to find better fares.

Choosing the right option early can help you save more and travel smoothly.

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) has won North America’s Cleanest Airport Award at the ASQ Customer Experience Awards 2025 for its spotless terminals, clean gates, and well-maintained restrooms. Backed by detailed traveler surveys and performance reviews, the SLC has set a benchmark for airport hygiene standards.

SLC’s Major Awards and Rankings

Departures Magazine just picked SLC as the best airport for 25-40 million passengers, thanks to outstanding cleanliness and happy customers. It’s backed by a bunch of ACI World Airport Service Quality wins from real traveler feedback.

They beat out bigger spots like Denver International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport by nailing the details, from restrooms to seating areas. Post-2020 upgrades added wider concourses and local art, keeping everything feeling open and super clean. These recognitions place it firmly among the best airports in North America.

Professional Cleaning Standards at the Airport

Flagship Aviation keeps full teams going with only 8% turnover. They grabbed the U.S. President’s Award in 2024 for exceptional cleaning at airports all over. Every day, they buff terrazzo floors to skip scuffs, dust that huge 72-foot waterfall called The Falls, and UV-sanitize tray returns and handles.

Late night after flights wrap, they deep clean gates and lounges so they’re sparkling for early risers. The compliance crew logs it all on their apps, no misses. This disciplined process supports its standing as the cleanest airport in North America.

Passengers often say the airport feels fresh and super organized right away. They wipe down armrests all day long. Seating spots stay neat and tidy. Security lines keep moving quickly and smoothly. Next to other big airports, Salt Lake City International Airport comes off calm, bright, and always clean.

Planning a trip through Salt Lake City International Airport? After enjoying its spotless gates and fresh vibe, book your flights from Salt Lake (SLC) to India with Indian Eagle for the best deals and easy booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the ASQ Customer Experience Awards 2025 measure?
The ASQ Customer Experience Awards 2025 are based entirely on passenger surveys conducted at airports worldwide. Travelers rate cleanliness, staff courtesy, wait times, comfort, and overall satisfaction. The results reflect real passenger experiences rather than internal airport reports.

How often are cleanliness inspections conducted at major airports?
Most top-performing airports conduct daily inspections, with some high-traffic areas reviewed multiple times per shift. Audits often include restrooms, seating zones, security bins, dining areas, and high-touch surfaces.

Are airport hygiene standards regulated by government agencies?
Yes. Airports in the United States follow federal health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. In addition, many airports implement internal quality benchmarks that exceed minimum regulatory standards.

What technologies help airports maintain high hygiene standards?
Modern airports use touchless fixtures, automated cleaning equipment, UV sanitation tools, smart restroom monitoring systems, and digital inspection logs. These systems alert staff when supplies run low or cleaning is required.

How do airports maintain cleanliness during peak travel seasons?
Airports increase staffing levels, shorten cleaning intervals, and deploy rapid-response teams during busy travel periods. High-traffic zones such as security lanes and restrooms are monitored more frequently.

India arrives at a defining aviation milestone. Its pioneering offshore airport emerges on reclaimed Arabian Sea land off Palghar, Maharashtra. This bold endeavor echoes Japan’s Kansai marvel and Dubai’s runway breakthroughs. It equips the nation for passenger booms and cargo surges, dismantling stubborn trade barriers. As MADC concludes its pre-feasibility study, groundbreaking approaches. The result promises a seismic shift in how goods and travelers navigate the world. This India offshore airport marks a turning point, giving the country room to scale passenger traffic and move high-value cargo faster across global markets.

Engineering and Investment Behind the ₹45,000 Crore Project

Funding streams are straightforward. Land reclamation receives nearly ₹25,000 crore. Operations involve dredging vast seabed volumes, totaling millions of cubic meters. Rock and sand layers follow and compact for strength. The artificial island is built to endure 200-knot jet engine thrust, cyclones up to 200 km/h, and nonstop wave action. Rigorous geotechnical assessments are designed to ensure decades of structural resilience.

Core construction absorbs ₹20,000 crore. Two parallel runways, each over 3.5 km long, allow continuous operations and support widebody aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350, enabling fast landing, taxiing, and takeoff cycles. Terminals spread across vast areas with modern check-in halls, faster security flows, and passenger lounges. Cargo zones include climate-controlled bays for fish, fruits, and vaccines, with a yearly capacity of 3 million metric tons, making it India’s largest air freight hub. Supporting systems such as radar domes, control towers, fuel farms, and fire stations are built to ICAO standards, meeting global benchmarks for safety and operational flow.

Scale and Operating Capacity of the Proposed Airport

90 million passengers roll through annually. Mornings buzz with Delhi and Ahmedabad feeders. Afternoons pack Mumbai shuttles. Evenings see long-haul from Europe, US, Southeast Asia. Families head coastside, execs chase deals, tourists hit beaches. Runways turn flights every 5 minutes at peak.

What powers non-stop ops? Two parallel runways over 3.5 km each. How about widebodies? Boeing 777s and A350s get smooth land-taxi-takeoff cycles. This hub airlifts it all. Perishables stay fresh, and high-value cargo avoids risk.  3 million tons mean exporters ditch slow ships or clogged roads. Speed wins markets.

Strategic Location Advantage of the Airport

Location nails it. Steps from Vadhavan offshore airport, next to Vadhavan Port, India’s next mega-container terminal. Ships berth with 20,000 TEU boxes from China, Middle East. Cranes unload, trucks haul 5 km max, loaders stuff planes. Transit drops from 5 days to 5 hours. Costs halve. No warehouse sits, no demurrage fees pile up. Indian steel, garments, chemicals race ahead of Thai or Vietnamese rivals. Straight path to global shelves. Dodge Mumbai’s port chaos too. No 10-hour truck queues to inland airports. Coastal spots keep noise offshore, protecting city air. Exporters in Gujarat or Rajasthan reroute here overnight.

Road Infrastructure

Vadodara to Mumbai links directly via expressway. 700 km features 4-6 concrete lanes at 100 km/h speeds, no stops. Freight from JNPT Port or Surat diamonds hits gates in 3 hours. Passengers cruise from Vadodara hotels to runways in 90 minutes. The 8-lane Uttan–Virar Sea Link spans 40 km over water. Cuts Palghar-Mumbai to 30 minutes flat. Industrial parks pipe trucks non-stop. Cement, steel coils, consumer goods. Tolls smart, traffic AI-managed. Western India freight flows freely toward the India first sea airport.

Rail-driven Connectivity and Efficiency

Metro line branches Western Railway at Virar. Double-tracks carry 50,000 commuters daily from Palghar towns, Vasai yards. Park-and-ride lots dump cars, cut emissions. Big link: Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail. 508 km bullet trains hit 320 km/h. Delhi-Gujarat passengers transfer seamlessly. Off train, baggage scan, board flight in 20 minutes. Logistics crews shuttle parts from Sanand factories to air holds. Ties full circle to northern industry belts.

Built at the Crossroads of Trade Routes

24 nodes like Dholera smart cities, Hazira steel, Greater Noida tech define the 1,500 km path of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor,  all tied together by the India offshore airport serving as a fast air express node.  Airport air express serves them all. The 1,504 km Western Dedicated Freight Corridor employs double-stack electrics for 13,000-ton train drops at sidings. Transfers to air happen in hours, skipping days of wait. Vadhavan Port boosts to 23.2 million TEU capacity. IMEC rail launches from here through UAE, Saudi, Israel, into Greece. Suez avoidance shaves 40% time to Europe. Air links rush critical loads, meds to Jordan, chips to Germany.
