New Specialty Rankings Help Patients Find Top Regional Hospitals
For the first time, U.S. News has introduced Regional Specialty Rankings in four specialties:
- Cancer
- Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery
- Orthopedics
- Rehabilitation
The new rankings are designed to help patients identify leading hospitals for complex care within their region.
How the Rankings Were Determined
The 2026–2027 rankings evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Hospitals were assessed using measures such as:
- Patient outcomes
- Survival rates
- Complication rates
- Readmission rates
- Patient safety
- Nursing quality
- Patient experience
This year’s methodology gives greater weight to patient outcomes than in previous editions.
