If you are flying with Emirates, make sure to check your power bank. Starting October 1st, 2025, Emirates passengers are barred from using power banks during flight. Notably, travellers can still carry the onboard but will not be allowed to charge devices in flight.
Why passengers cannot use power banks on Emirates flights?
Emirates aims to reduce fire risks linked to lithium-ion batteries. Although power banks help passengers keep phones, tablets and laptops charged during long-haul flights, these devices come with potential hazards. Lithium-ion batteries can overheat, catch fire or even explode under certain conditions. Emirates’ decision to onboard is a step to ensure safety for both passengers and crew.

Power Banks in Baggage
According to the new rules, passengers may be able to bring power banks in their cabin baggage but NOT in checked luggage. Each Emirates passenger is allowed to carry only one power bank with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours. This is in line with international safety guidelines on battery-powered devices. Power banks above this limit are not permitted in Emirates flights.
Power banks on a plane must be kept in seat pockets or under the seat. Passengers are not allowed to keep them in overhead bins. This ensures that cabin crew can access the device quickly in case of an emergency.
