American Airlines is enhancing comfort on long-haul flights by introducing thoughtful upgrades to its premium cabins. Let’s take a look at them.

Pajamas Return on American Airlines Long-Haul Flights

Beginning August 2025, Business Class customers on wide-body flights from Dallas–Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York JFK will receive complimentary unisex pajamas. The set includes a soft top and jogger-style pants, available in S/M or L/XL, and is produced with Nest Bedding, a brand known for sustainable sleep gear. Eligible routes include long-haul departures to East Asia, India, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. Later this summer, American will also reintroduce mattress toppers to improve sleep quality on overnight sectors.

American Airlines Lets Premium Flyers Use Headsets Until Arrival

Premium flyers no longer have to hand back their headsets early. On many flights, First and Business customers can keep watching or listening until the aircraft parks at the gate and then leave the Bang & Olufsen headphones at the seat. The policy is live on U.S. inbound and Flagship domestic routes, with outbound international expansion planned later in 2025.

American Airlines Adds Preboarding for First and Business Class

Since May 1, 2025, American Airlines allows First and Business Class passengers to preboard with ConciergeKey members and families with young children. The airline has also added five minutes to the boarding process to reduce crowding and give premium passengers more time to store luggage, settle into their seats, and enjoy pre-departure service.

American Airlines to Offer Free Wi-Fi for AAdvantage Members in 2026

Another big upgrade is coming for everyone who joins AAdvantage. Starting January 2026, American plans to offer complimentary Wi-Fi on aircraft equipped with Viasat or Intelsat high-speed satellite service, covering roughly 90% of the fleet at launch. This marks one of the largest free in-flight connectivity rollouts in the industry, giving travelers the freedom to stay online for the entire journey on most routes.

New Amenities Aim to Build Trust with Premium Customers

American spent the past few years reworking its product and loyalty strategy. The latest additions aim to rebuild trust with premium travelers by focusing on rest, predictability, and time-saving details. Pajamas and mattress toppers make red-eyes less taxing. Gate-to-gate entertainment avoids abrupt cutoffs. Smoother boarding lowers stress at the door. Free Wi-Fi ties the experience together once it arrives.

Key Dates and Details for American Airlines’ New Upgrades

Pajamas will be available beginning in August 2025, while mattress toppers are set to return later this summer. Gate-to-gate in-flight entertainment is already rolling out, and complimentary Wi-Fi is scheduled to launch in January 2026.

The pajamas will be offered on select wide-body departures from Dallas–Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York JFK to destinations in East Asia, India, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.

Business Class travelers will receive the sleepwear and mattress toppers, while both First and Business Class passengers will enjoy gate-to-gate entertainment and preboarding privileges. Once live, free Wi-Fi will be available to all AAdvantage members on eligible aircraft.
