In reply to Shree. Hi Shree! The government of India was supposed to issue e-passports from the beginning of 2021, but the process is delayed because of the pandemic.

In which month will the MEA launch the E-passport ? Will it have any other features like the polycarbonate ePage or will it just have a biometric chip ? Are the pages going to be same or redesigned ?

In reply to Sundaresan. Hi Sundaresan! No need to apply for upgrade. Your passport will be upgraded to the electronic version, at the time of renewal.

The existing passport holders , do they need to upgrade to the new e passports ?
Is there an option like that ?
Or at the time of renewal / new passport , this will be automatically done ?
Not clear !
