Clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 AM local time. At that exact moment, it becomes 1:00 AM, and standard time kicks back in across most of the country.

This is the earliest the fall time change can possibly land. And yeah, it falls right on Halloween weekend, which won’t happen again until 2037. Trick-or-treaters get the extra evening light on Saturday night, then the clocks roll back while everybody’s sleeping.

When Exactly Do Clocks Change?

Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 AM. The clock jumps back to 1:00 AM. That means November 1 is technically a 25-hour day, and the hour between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM happens twice.

Most phones, laptops, and smart devices handle it automatically. But ovens, microwaves, car clocks, and older alarm clocks? Those gotta be changed by hand. Might wanna knock that out before bed Saturday night so the morning isn’t all messed up.

Do You Actually Get an Extra Hour of Sleep?

Technically, yeah. The clock repeats that 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM window, so there’s an extra hour built into the night. But here’s the thing, most people don’t actually sleep longer. A 2013 review found little evidence that folks get more shut-eye on fall back night, even though everybody talks about it like it’s a free nap.

The bigger deal is what happens after. Sunrise and sunset both shift about an hour earlier. Mornings get brighter, but evenings get dark real fast. In a city like Atlanta, sunset drops to around 5:45 PM on November 1, and by the end of the month it’s before 5:30 PM.

Which States Don’t Change Clocks at All?

Not everybody plays this game. Two states sit it out completely:
