Located on Chicago’s South Side in Jackson Park, the Obama Presidential Center Museum will open this summer, and Illinois residents can enjoy a free museum every Tuesday as part of “Illinois Free Days.”

Free Tuesdays for Illinois Residents

Starting June 23, 2026, Illinois residents can visit the Obama Presidential Center Museum without paying admission on Tuesdays. However, they must still reserve a timed ticket in advance because space is expected to fill up quickly.

To prove they live in Illinois, visitors must show: 

• A current Illinois driver’s license or state ID
• A Chicago CityKey card
• Or a valid photo ID plus another document like an Illinois lease, library card, student ID, utility bill, or work ID with pay stub

Ticket Sales and Prices

Tickets to visit the Obama Presidential Center Museum will go on sale in early May 2026:

• April 21: “Founding Members” of the Obama Foundation can buy tickets early.
• May 6: Tickets go on sale to the general public.

Other visitors who are not Illinois residents will need to pay standard admission: 

• Adults (12 and older): $30
• Children (3–11): $23
• Children 2 and under: Free

Illinois residents visiting on days other than Tuesday pay a discounted rate of $26 for adults and $15 for children.

Opening Date and Location

The Obama Presidential Center Museum opens to the public on June 19, 2026, during Juneteenth weekend. Celebrations will continue through June 21, featuring special events, activities, and exhibitions to mark the grand opening. Visitors can explore the museum, library, and surrounding grounds during this first weekend.
