Long immigration lines can be one of the most frustrating parts of international travel. India is trying to change that with its Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Travellers’ Programme (FTI-TTP), and some of the country’s biggest sports stars are already highlighting its benefits.

Recent videos shared by the Bureau of Immigration feature Virat Kohli and Sania Mirza discussing how the program is making airport travel faster and more convenient.

For frequent flyers, the initiative could be a game changer.

What Virat Kohli Had to Say 

As someone who travels regularly for international cricket, the star cricketer knows the challenges of airport procedures. In the Bureau of Immigration’s video, Kohli praised the introduction of e-gates and the smoother experience they provide. He noted that the lengthy waits often associated with immigration counters are largely gone, calling the process efficient and seamless.

Sania Mirza’s Message to Travelers 

Former tennis champion Sania Mirza also encouraged eligible travelers to sign up for the program. According to Mirza, the initiative is helping make travel faster, smarter, and safer. Her endorsement reflects a growing awareness of the program among Indian travelers who frequently fly abroad.

Expanded Airport Network for International Travelers 

The service is no longer limited to a few locations. Travelers can currently use the program at major international gateways, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Amritsar, Calicut, Trivandrum, and Trichy. This wide airport network makes the program accessible to a large number of international passengers.

How the Program Works 

The program was introduced in 2024 to speed up immigration checks at international airports. Instead of waiting in traditional immigration queues, approved travelers can use automated e-gates. The process can take as little as 30 seconds. Passengers scan their passport and boarding pass, complete biometric verification, and move through the gate once clearance is confirmed. The goal is simple to spend less time standing in line and more time getting to your destination 

Who Can Join?

• The program is open to Indian citizens and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders.
• Applicants must have a passport that remains valid for at least six months.
• Once approved, membership remains active for five years or until the passport expires.

How to Apply for the Program 

Travelers can apply through the official FTI-TTP portal. The application requires basic documents, including a passport photo, passport details, address proof, and OCI documentation if applicable. After online verification, applicants must complete biometric enrollment at a designated airport or FRRO center. Final approval may take up to a month.
