United Airlines has expanded its Economy meal preorder service to 420 additional daily flights across North America and the Caribbean. Passengers traveling on eligible flights can now preorder fresh meals before departure. The expansion gives up to 65,000 more travelers per day access to meal preordering, making it easier to choose food before flying.

United Airlines Lowers Meal Preorder Distance

United Airlines has reduced the minimum distance threshold for its Economy fresh meal preorder program. Previously, passengers could preorder fresh meals on eligible flights more than 1,190 miles long. Under the updated policy, the service is available on eligible flights more than 900 miles long. This change allows more passengers on shorter routes to preorder fresh meals before departure.

The new policy makes meal planning easier for passengers who previously had fewer options on shorter flights. However, the expansion does not mean United Airlines will provide free meals to all Economy passengers.

Which United Airlines Flights Are Eligible for Meal Preorders?

The expanded United Airlines meal preorder program covers more flights across North America and the Caribbean. United has added several hub-to-hub routes to the program. Some of the new routes include:

• Chicago to Houston: Passengers traveling between these major United hubs can access the expanded preorder service on eligible flights.
• Denver to San Francisco: Travelers on this route can preorder fresh food before departure.
• Houston to Washington, D.C.: Economy passengers on eligible flights can preorder meals through United’s website or mobile app.

These routes are examples of the newly introduced flights. Other flights across the airline’s North American and Caribbean network may also qualify. Passengers should check their reservations on the United Airlines website or app to confirm whether meal preordering is available for their specific flight.

When Can Passengers Preorder United Airlines Meals?

United allows passengers to preorder eligible meals beginning five days before departure and until 24 hours before the flight. For example, if a flight departs on October 30, passengers can generally begin preordering on October 25. Passengers should check their meal options as soon as preordering becomes available. United also notes that preordered meals may not be available in certain circumstances.

What Food Options Are Available on United Airlines Economy Flights?

United Airlines offers several fresh food choices through its Bistro on Board menu, available for preorder on eligible flights. Passengers can choose from sandwiches, burgers, burritos, pasta, breakfast options, and other eligible food items. The airline rotates its menu monthly, giving travelers different options throughout the year.

Free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus Members

United continues to expand access to fast, free Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet. MileagePlus members traveling on Starlink-equipped aircraft can use the service to stream content, play games, shop, and stay connected during their journey.

In its October 19, 2026, announcement, United said Starlink was available across its entire two-cabin regional fleet and on more than 280 mainline aircraft. The airline plans to continue expanding availability across its fleet.

More Live Sports and In-Flight Entertainment

Passengers can access 2,500+ hours of entertainment, including movies, music, television programs, and other content. The airline offers entertainment content from providers such as Apple TV, HBO Max, A24, and Spotify.

United has also expands live television and sports programming on equipped aircraft, including access to channels. It includes ABC, TBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, CBS, FS1, ESPN2, and NFL Network, as well as Thursday Night Football on Prime Video. The airline also introduces new aircraft with 27-inch, 4K OLED seatback screens.
