Southwest Airlines has announced 25 new and returning routes as part of its Spring 2027 schedule update. The expansion includes 22 domestic routes and three international routes, giving travelers more nonstop options across the United States, the Caribbean, and Central America.

Several routes were announced earlier, while others have appeared in the airline’s latest schedule for the first time. Many of the Southwest new nonstop routes will operate during the Spring Break travel season.

The latest Southwest Airlines network update comes as major US carriers, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and JetBlue, also expand or adjust their route networks.

Southwest Airlines Adds 22 Domestic Routes

According to schedule data, 12 of the 22 domestic routes have never previously been operated nonstop by Southwest Airlines. Three of those airport pairs have never had nonstop commercial flights by any airline. Most of these Southwest new nonstop routes will begin on March 11, 2027.

Routes Starting March 11, 2027

  • Baltimore/Washington (BWI) – Philadelphia (PHL): 2 daily flights
  • Boise – Los Angeles (LAX): Daily
  • Dallas Love Field – Detroit (DTW): 6 weekly
  • Detroit – Austin: 6 weekly
  • Las Vegas (LAS) – Boston: 6 weekly
  • Las Vegas – Miami: Daily
  • Nashville (BNA) – Des Moines: Daily
  • Nashville (BNA) – Wichita: Daily
  • New York LaGuardia – Orlando: 3 daily
  • Orlando – Pensacola: Daily
  • Richmond – Tampa: Daily

Seasonal Routes Begin on March 13

Southwest Airlines will launch another group of seasonal routes on March 13, 2027. Most of these Southwest new nonstop routes will operate on Saturdays or during the Spring Break travel period.

Routes Starting March 13, 2027

  • Birmingham – Fort Lauderdale: Saturday
  • Nashville – St. Thomas: Saturday
  • Indianapolis – Destin/Fort Walton Beach: Saturday
  • Las Vegas – Knoxville: Saturday and Sunday
  • Louisville – Miami: Saturday
  • Milwaukee – Panama City: Saturday
  • Minneapolis – Fort Myers: Saturday
  • Oklahoma City – Tampa: Saturday
  • Omaha – Fort Myers: Saturday
  • San Diego – Kona: Saturday and Sunday
  • San Diego – Lihue: Saturday and Sunday

Among these routes, Nashville–Wichita, Nashville–St. Thomas, and Milwaukee–Panama City are completely new nonstop markets.

Southwest Airlines Launches Three International Routes

The Southwest Airlines schedule also includes three international additions beginning on March 13, 2027, further expanding its network of Southwest new nonstop routes.

Austin – San José, Costa Rica

Southwest Airlines will launch the first-ever nonstop flight between Austin and San José, Costa Rica. The service will operate every Saturday using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The flight will depart Austin at 10:25 AM and return at 7:20 PM.

Booking data indicated that Austin was the fourth-largest unserved US market for San José, Costa Rica.

Nashville – Aruba

The airline will also introduce Saturday-only flights between Nashville and Aruba. This route has never been served nonstop by any airline.

Columbus – Punta Cana

John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) will receive new Saturday-only service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. While the route is new for Southwest Airlines, it was previously operated in 2004 by USA 3000.

Baltimore–Philadelphia Becomes One of Southwest’s Shortest Flights

One of the most notable additions among the Southwest new nonstop routes is the Baltimore (BWI) to Philadelphia (PHL) service.

The flight covers just 78 nautical miles (144 km), making it one of the shortest routes in the Southwest Airlines network.

The airline is expected to use the route mainly to connect passengers through its large Baltimore operation rather than serve local travelers. Southwest has been adding more short-haul flights to improve connections across its network.

The Baltimore–Philadelphia route was last operated in 2020 by American Eagle as a feeder service for American Airlines‘ Philadelphia hub.

Nashville Continues to Grow

The latest expansion highlights Nashville International Airport (BNA) as one of the fastest-growing airports in the Southwest Airlines network. The airport will gain four new routes:

  • Des Moines
  • Wichita
  • St. Thomas
  • Aruba

The additions strengthen Nashville’s role as both a leisure gateway and a connecting airport.

Other US Airlines Also Expand Networks

The announcement of Southwest new nonstop routes comes as several major US carriers also continue expanding and adjusting their networks. Recent announcements include:

  • Delta Air Lines launching nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Manila.
  • United Airlines has restored four routes from Newark.
  • JetBlue making operational changes to its Amsterdam service.
