Strong On-Time Performance and Passenger Growth 

In April–May 2026, United Airlines posted its best-ever on-time performance at its key New York hub, carrying nearly 5.8 million passengers and recording a Memorial Day surge of about 3 million travelers, with close to 70% arriving on schedule. For the 2026 summer travel period, the carrier is projecting over 53 million travelers systemwide, signaling strong demand and continued strain on capacity across its hub network.

The airport’s improvement follows a challenging spring 2025 period driven by Federal Aviation Administration system outages, air traffic control staffing shortages, and runway construction, which together led to widespread operational disruptions.
