November 2026 is stacked. Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Chhath Puja, and a bunch of regional festivals all land in the same month. Banks across India are gonna be ghosting on multiple days.

The kicker? Not every state gets the same holidays. A branch in Mumbai might be shut while Chennai stays open. Gotta check the city-specific list or risk pulling up to a locked door.

Weekend Closures: 7 Days Already Gone

Every bank in India closes on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturday. No exceptions. For November 2026, that wipes out seven days right off the bat:

  • November 1 — Sunday
  • November 8 — Sunday
  • November 14 — Second Saturday
  • November 15 — Sunday
  • November 22 — Sunday
  • November 28 — Fourth Saturday
  • November 29 — Sunday

Seven locked-in closures. Every state. Every city. Done deal.

Diwali on a Sunday? Total Wash

Diwali 2026 falls on November 8. That’s already Sunday.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana declared it a Diwali holiday. But since it lands on a Sunday, there’s no extra day off. No substitute holiday. No bonus break. The festival just gets swallowed by the regular weekly off.

Lowkey a bummer for anyone hoping for a longer Diwali stretch.

November 9: Govardhan Puja

Banks closed in:

  • Agartala
  • Bhopal
  • Chandigarh
  • Gangtok
  • Imphal
  • Jaipur
  • Kanpur
  • Lucknow

Rest of the country stays open.

November 10: Lakshmi Puja / Bali Pradhan

Banks closed in:

  • Ahmedabad
  • Belapur
  • Bengaluru
  • Dehradun
  • Gangtok
  • Mumbai
  • Nagpur

Big cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru going offline on this one. Plan accordingly.

November 11: Lakshmi Puja / Ningol Chakkouba / Bhai Dooj / Chitragupta Puja

Banks closed in:

  • Gangtok
  • Kanpur
  • Lucknow
  • Kolkata
  • Imphal
  • Shimla

Four festivals stacked on one date. Gangtok gets hit for the third straight day. That city is basically off the grid from November 8 through 11.

November 13: Wangala Festival

Banks closed in Shillong only. Super local. Rest of India keeps rolling.

November 16: Chhath Puja

Banks closed in:

  • Patna
  • Ranchi

Massive celebration in Bihar and Jharkhand. Branches in both cities go completely dark.

November 20: Igas-Bagwal

Banks are closed in Dehradun only. Hyper-local Uttarakhand holiday. Most of the country won’t even peep it.

November 23: Seng Kut Snem

Banks closed in Shillong only. Another Meghalaya-specific closure that flies under the radar.

November 24: Guru Nanak Jayanti

This one hits differently. Banks across most of India shut down for the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Unlike the scattered regional holidays, this one pulls up on almost every state at the same time. Biggest single-day closure in November 2026 outside of regular weekends. No cap.

November 27: Kanakadasa Jayanti

Banks closed in Bengaluru only. Karnataka celebrates. Rest of the country keeps it moving.

The Worst Stretch: November 8 to 15

Here’s where it gets real ugly for some cities:

  • November 8 — Sunday (Diwali)
  • November 9 — Govardhan Puja closures
  • November 10 — Lakshmi Puja closures
  • November 11 — Bhai Dooj closures
  • November 14 — Second Saturday
  • November 15 — Sunday

Cities like Gangtok, Kanpur, and Lucknow lose almost a full week of banking. That’s brutal.

How to Stay Ahead

Go Digital or Go Home

Bank branches might ghost, but UPI, net banking, and mobile banking apps stay up 24/7, no holidays, no closures, no drama. That’s the cheat code right there. Every transfer, every bill payment, every transaction stays on deck regardless of what the branches are doing.

Don’t Sleep on Cash Withdrawals

Long holiday stretches drain ATMs fast, and smaller towns get hit the hardest because restocking cycles are slow. The play is simple, pull cash a couple days before the closures start stacking. Nobody wants to be scrambling for an ATM that’s already tapped out.

Keep Eyes on RBI and State Announcements

Here’s what most people miss. The RBI and state-level banking authorities can add holidays to the list at the last minute, and those surprise additions catch folks off guard every single time. Checking official announcements regularly is the only way to stay ahead of the curve.

One State’s Holiday Ain’t Another State’s Holiday

Bank holidays in India are all over the map, literally. A closure in Mumbai doesn’t mean anything in Patna, and a holiday in Shillong might not even register in Jaipur. Always pull up the state-specific list before making any banking plans. Assuming every city follows the same schedule is a rookie move.

November 2026 is loaded with bank holidays from start to finish. The dates are set, the cities are mapped out, and the only thing left is planning ahead. Getting blindsided when there’s money stuff to handle is never a good look.
