India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. Independence Day honors the country’s freedom struggle and its freedom fighters. Independence Day of India 2026 in the USA will be observed on Saturday, August 15, marking India’s 80th Independence Day and 79 years of independence.

August 15 is not a U.S. federal holiday. However, Indian diplomatic missions and community organizations will host flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, festivals and parades across the country.

Indian Independence Day 2026 Events Across the USA

Several Indian-American communities will organize Independence Day celebrations across the United States in August 2026.

New York City India Day Celebrations 2026

New York City will host India Day celebrations from August 14 to 16. Events will include a Times Square flag-hoisting ceremony, Empire State Building illumination, the India Day Parade, cultural programs, food and community activities, and a grand gala.

The Times Square flag-hoisting ceremony is scheduled for August 15 at 10 a.m.

The 44th Annual India Day Parade will take place on August 16 at 12 p.m. along Madison Avenue from East 38th Street to East 27th Street.

The celebrations will also include Indian food, music, dance, cultural performances and community booths. The India Day Grand Gala will be held at Cipriani Wall Street on August 16.

The Empire State Building is scheduled to be illuminated in the Indian tricolor on August 14.

AIA SWADES 2026 in San Jose

San Francisco Bay Area will host AIA SWADES 2026 on August 15 at Plaza de Cesar Chavez in Downtown San Jose, celebrating the U.S. 250th and India’s 80th Independence Day. Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu will be the Honorable Guest and Grand Marshal. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and India’s Consul General in San Francisco, Dr. Srikar Reddy, will attend as Chief Guests.

The free celebration will feature a Multinational Parade from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a Day & Night Mela from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Highlights include a Tiranga Walk, Indian food festival, shopping, cultural performances, fashion show and Kids Zone. Advance registration is recommended for complimentary Mela tickets.

Southern California India Day Celebration 2026

The India Association of Los Angeles (IALA) will host its India Independence Day celebration on August 22 at Hjelte Sports Center in Encino. The event will feature an open-air mela, cultural performances, community activities, Indian food and fashion booths.

Fremont, California – FOG India Day 2026

FOG India Day 2026 will take place in Fremont on August 15 and 16. The two-day festival will feature cultural programs, food, shopping, entertainment and community booths. The FOG India Day Parade is scheduled for August 16 at 11 a.m.

Charlotte, North Carolina – India Day 2026

The Hindu Center of Charlotte will celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15 with “Maa Tujhe Pranaam” as the theme. The event at Vihar Hall will feature Indian folk arts and cultural performances. Registration is required.

Seattle, Washington – India’s 80th Independence Day

The Consulate General of India in Seattle will host an official flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15. The event will bring together members of the Indian-American community to commemorate India’s Independence Day.

Boston, Massachusetts – India Day Festival 2026

The Indian Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) will host India Day Festival 2026 on August 15 at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell. Themed “Colors of India,” the festival will feature music, performances and community activities.

Minnesota IndiaFest 2026

Minnesota IndiaFest 2026 will take place at the Minnesota State Capitol grounds in St. Paul on August 15. The festival will feature cultural programs, food, shopping and community activities. More than 100 booths are expected, representing cultural organizations, nonprofits, businesses, educational groups and community organizations. The event will begin around 11 a.m. and is open to the public.

Florida India Day Celebration

The Association of Indians in America (AIA), Florida Chapter will host its India Independence Day Festival on August 16 at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale. The celebration will feature cultural programs, Indian food, ethnic fashion and patriotic music.

Michigan – AQL India Day 2026

AQL India Day 2026 will be held in Novi on August 15 at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace. Organized by the India League of America Michigan, the event will feature a parade, Indian food, music, dance, cultural performances, exhibits and community activities.

India’s 80th Independence Day in Texas

Jai Ho! 2026 will celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day with “Ye Jo Des Hai Mera,” featuring patriotic music and storytelling. The event will take place on August 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Cedar Park near Austin. Performers include Jitendra Abhyankar, Chaitanya Kulkarni, Abhilasha Chellam and Malvika Dixit.

Atlanta, Georgia – Festival of India 2026

The Indian American Cultural Association of Atlanta will host the Festival of India 2026 on August 15 at the Gas South Convention Center in Duluth. The celebration will feature music, dance, food, shopping, yoga, chess and art displays. The event is ticketed and runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Needham, Massachusetts – ICON India Day 2026

ICON India Day 2026 will be held on August 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Powers Hall in Needham Town Hall. The celebration will include the national anthem, cultural performances, a fashion show, art exhibition, children’s activities and community vendors. Registration is required.

Nashville Area, Tennessee

An India Day celebration is scheduled for August 15 at Umiya Dham in Antioch, Tennessee. The event will bring together the Nashville-area Indian-American community for an Independence Day celebration.

Indianapolis will host an India Day Festival on August 15. The festival is expected to feature Indian food, cultural performances, Bollywood dance, fashion shows and children’s activities. The event is scheduled from approximately 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Long Island, New York – India Day Parade

The 15th India Day Parade USA, organized by IDPUSA, will take place in Hicksville, Long Island, on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The parade is scheduled to begin at noon at Patel Brothers, 415 S. Broadway, Hicksville, and end at 80 E. Barclays Street. Indian-American communities across the United States are organizing flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural festivals to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day.
