Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is planning to add dedicated wudu stations in Terminal D, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The plans were registered with Texas regulators on July 31, 2026. Two stations are planned. One will be inside an existing men’s restroom. The other will be inside an existing women’s restroom on the concourse level.

Wudu is a ritual washing that Muslims perform before prayer. The new stations will give travelers a separate place to wash their feet and other parts of the body. The work will be privately funded and is expected to cost about $300,000. The stations are also designed to make foot washing easier and cleaner. Their low-level basins can direct water into drainage systems. This can help keep restroom floors and areas around regular sinks dry.

Ablution Facilities at DFW Airport 

The new restroom stations will not be DFW Airport’s first ablution facilities.

In 2019, the airport reopened the renovated Terminal D Interfaith Chapel. The chapel includes two ablution stations. It provides a space for passengers and airport employees of different faiths to worship and reflect. 

The new stations would make ablution facilities easier to access. Travelers would be able to use them inside existing men’s and women’s restrooms. This would give passengers another option beyond the Interfaith Chapel.

Worship and Wudu Facilities Across U.S. Airports 

DFW Airport is not the only major U.S. airport with facilities for Muslim travelers.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport has an airport chapel with facilities for Muslim prayer and wudu. Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport also has an ablution room in Terminal D.

These facilities give Muslim travelers a place to pray and perform religious rituals while traveling. They can be especially useful during long trips or airport layovers. 

The planned DFW stations have sparked discussion online. Some people have criticized the religious purpose of the facilities. 

Others say the stations are a practical addition. They can give Muslim travelers a dedicated place to perform wudu. They may also help reduce water on floors and around regular restroom sinks. 

The DFW Airport ablution stations are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, depending on the construction schedule.
