Changing jobs is common, but many employees forget to transfer their Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) balance to their new account. To make this process easier, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a more user-friendly system through its upgraded member portal.

With the latest update, employees now have two convenient methods to submit an EPF account transfer request online. The new features are designed to reduce paperwork, speed up the process, and help members maintain a single, continuous provident fund account.

How to Transfer EPF Balance Online

The upgraded EPFO member portal now provides two options for submitting an EPF account transfer request. Before using either method, log in using your Universal Account Number (UAN).

1. Use the Online Transfer Request Option

The first method is available under the Online Services section of the portal. This option lets employees directly begin the PF transfer process without visiting any EPFO office.

2. Transfer Through Member Service History

The second method is available under Member Service History. This section displays your previous and current employment records. If there is no pending transfer request, members can submit a fresh Form 13 transfer claim directly from this page. It also helps employees track the status of existing transfer requests.

How to Submit an EPF Transfer Request

The process is straightforward.

⇒ Log in to your EPFO account using your registered UAN and password.
⇒ Choose either of the transfer options available on the portal.
Enter your previous employer’s Member ID and verify the required details.
Click to fetch the account information. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Enter the OTP to authenticate the request.
Review the details of the current employer to which the EPF balance will be transferred.
Submit the application.

EPFO will process the request and transfer your PF balance to your current EPF account.

Don’t Know Your UAN?

If you cannot remember your Universal Account Number, you can retrieve it by following these steps:

  • Checking your latest salary slip
  • Contacting your employer
  • Using details from your existing EPFO account

You need your UAN to access all online EPFO services.

Benefits of Keeping One Active EPF Account

Maintaining a single EPF account throughout your career offers several long-term advantages.

  • All EPF contributions and accumulated interest remain in one account, providing a clear view of your retirement corpus.
  • A unified employment record helps maintain continuity for pension and other EPF-related benefits.
  • Managing withdrawals, advances, and final claims becomes simpler with fewer account records to handle.
  • Consolidating accounts can help avoid potential TDS on final settlement, subject to applicable rules.
  • Eligible members may continue to receive insurance benefits under the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme, subject to eligibility.

The EPF interest rate for FY 2025-26 is 8.25% per annum. EPFO calculates interest every month based on your account’s closing balance and credits it to your EPF account at the end of the financial year.

Note: Employees are advised to submit requests online and regularly monitor the application status through the member portal.
