Biometric eGates at US airports will fasten the security screening. CLEAR and the TSA are collaborating to pilot the new biometric eGates. These will first appear at three key airports in USA, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Reagan National in Washington, D.C. and Seattle-Tacoma

The initiative is funded by CLEAR, so taxpayers pay nothing extra. It reflects public-private collaboration to modernize security checkpoints ahead of major travel surges in 2026.

How will the biometric eGates at US airports work?

Travelers just have to scan their face. The system matches it in real time with their boarding pass and ID. After verification, they move directly to bag screening, without stopping at a TSA officer’s desk.

The biometric eGates at US Airports aim to cut down wait times. Total processing time at the gate is expected to be just three to six seconds. The TSA retains full control over security and maintains authority to grant or deny access and still handles additional vetting if needed. CLEAR cannot override TSA decisions or access sensitive “no-fly” lists. The data transmitted includes a live face scan, boarding pass, and ID photo; nothing more.

Are biometric eGates available at all airports in USA?

No, for now, biometric eGates are only available at Atlanta Airports. By the end of August, these may be debuted at Seattle-Tacoma and Reagan National in Washington. Notably, CLEAR plans to expand the system to over 30 airports in the coming six months. The goal is full nationwide availability by summer 2026, in time for the World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

CLEAR eGates are exclusive to Clear+ members. The membership costs $209 per year. Family members may receive discounted rates, and some credit cards offer rebates or bundle options with TSA PreCheck. The program is designed to reduce bottlenecks at security checkpoints. Travelers expect a faster, safer, and more convenient airport experience.

Apart from biometric eGates at US Airports, TSA is also expanding its touchless ID system to 15 airports. This system uses facial recognition without requiring physical IDs. Delta, United, American, and other airlines are adding support.
